We allow shoes in our house. I personally think it's rude to ask your guests to remove their shoes, but I do remove my shoes at others houses if that is their house rule. I just don't like it.

I hate removing my shoes at other peoples houses. I will do it but I think its weird.

I find it weird to go to a dinner or something and everyone is standing around in socks.

I agree word for word

We take our shoes off. I just prefer to walk around barefoot, I don't ask my guests to remove their shoes.

Same here. We all take our shoes off, but don't ask others to.

The dog makes most of the mess anyhow, and I can't ask him to take his paws off (unfortunately)

Same. And I take my shoes off bc it's more comfortable for me to have my shoes off. I'm at work and have my shoes kicked off! I make DH take his shoes off bc he always manages to track in dirt.

We were always a "we don't care" household until we came to Canada. Here everyone takes their shoes off, probably because of the crappy weather, and it made sense to us. We will probably keep doing it after we leave.

I take my shoes off and put slippers on at the door. DH is still getting used to doing this but does sometimes. I also wipe the dogs feet when they come in.

I never ask guests to remove shoes. For the once In a while we have guests, I'll clean the floors next day.

I do all of this and my floors still aren't as clean as I like! All wood floors and the dust just lays there and gets on my socks. I hate it.

Off, because it's a cultural thing and the thought of wearing shoes in the house is a foreign to me as wearing boots to bed, haha.

Guests almost always assume their shoes come off. Once in a while they ask if we want them to take their shoes off, and we say yes please.

We don't bother asking contractors/repairmen, etc. I just clean the floor immediately after they leave.

I grew up in Pennsylvania and feel like it was much less of a big deal to take shoes off in the house in PA. Here on Long Island, it seems like it's offensive/rude to a lot of people.

Also, when I wear my shoes in other people's houses, I feel super weird and find myself trying to tiptoe or not take many steps. I think to myself -- I've worn these shoes in the bathroom at Penn Station! On the sidewalk in the NYC! In the dog park! At the gas station!

I want to be a shoes off household but my husband insists it's rude to ask people to take them off. I have no problem taking my shoes off at other peoples' home but he HATES it. Once I have kids crawling on the floors, I will INSIST on shoes off.

Shoes off. Everyone that comes over automatically kicks their shoes off, never had to ask. The exception is for BBQ's since we will be in and out of the house. Only one room is carpeted, shoes are never allowed in that room.

We don't ask people to take their shoes off. I usually take mine off when i get home, but that's for comfort, not for cleanliness.

I dislike taking mine off at other people's houses. I find it somewhat rude to ask.

My in-laws have the no-shoe policy and take them off even when they come over my house even though I've never asked them too. I'd actually prefer if they left them on lol

Shoes on (or off if you really want to haha)

I have all hardwood floors, dark ones too.. and 2 dogs! I give up at this point. It makes no difference if shoes are on considering my floors get destroyed 4 seconds after cleaning them.

Whatever you want. I don't take mine off right when I walk in but I will be barefoot if I am home for a while. I never ask anyone to take them off and I wish my DH would wear shoes since his feet smell!!!!!.

I also have a dog so his feet as just as dirty as my shoes I'm assuming.

We do not wear shoes in our home but don't ask guests to take off. I cringe thinking how groose it is to have their shoes all over though Chat Icon

Our kids however ask their friends to take shoes off Chat Icon

Re: Are you a shoes on or off household?

I take my shoes off as soon as I walk in & put them in the closet. DH sometimes does this, sometimes not. My mom takes her shoes off when she comes over. Other people I don't ask & I really don't care, whatever they're comfortable with is okay with me. I clean my floors a lot anyway so it's okay.

We are always without shoes in our home. Its just more comfortable. I wear slippers and DH & kids have socks on.

I would never ask any guest to take their shoes off - I personally think its weird.

We are. Most people know who come to my house. They remove them. If someone doesn't, I don't care. But for us that live here, everyone removes them once they walk in.

Exactly this. Dh's family has always been shoes off, they are Chinese and yes it is a cultural thing, and no we are NOT being rude if we ask you to remove your shoes, it's our house, personally I would find it rude if you refused. We don't ask everyone in every situation, but if you are our friend you know how we are, and do it automatically. I have never once had ANYONE say boo to me about it.

Re: Are you a shoes on or off household?

Shoes off. We have an entryway bench that has cubbies for shoes so we sit, take them off and store them there. Frequent visitors such as my mom and sisters take off their shoes ( my mom keeps slippers at my house). We don't ask other guests (occasional visitors/party guests) to remove their shoes, I just clean the floors after they leave.

Re: Are you a shoes on or off household?

we are trying to be shoes off but we still forget sometimes.

I don't ask or expect people to take theirs off.

I don't mind taking my shoes off if I am asked I go to my one friends house and I know she doesnt wear shoes in her house so I take them off every time I go without her even asking me too.

I do personally however find it weird if you are having a party and you expect everyone to take their shoes off. IMO if you are that concerned about germs/dirt just clean the floors once everyone leaves or don't host a party.

ETA we do have a basket by our front door for the shoes

This is when we do not ask, we just clean the floors afterward. And I don't ask my 80+ year old grandfather to remove his shoes.
