Are you changing your plans and routines because of coronavirus?
I would not go near an ER or take my DD or DH to an ER unless it was an immediate life or death situation.

Just an update. We are at his surgeons office now. I was going to call a friend who’s a nurse but then thought she’s been in a hospital everyday seeing all types of people - so wasn’t sure. It’s all too friggin much at this point
Figuring the surgeon is in surgery and not specifically seeing “sick” patients.
I’m not terribly concerned of getting it. It’s just while he’s healing from major surgery and still has an open wound now, his body needs the strength to heal and not be run down trying to fight this virus too. Plus coughing with an abdominal incision? Not cool.
Trying to avoid this for at least another week. Then if we get it, we will just stay away from his parents
Glad he's at the surgeon. Your description of it made me nervous. LOL You don't want him getting an infection. Good luck!

Dh works for a hospital system. They had a town hall meeting last night and said things are bad, going to get worse and there will definitely be more closures- possibly NYC schools. But, the media hype is unreal. Example-- reports that all CUNY/SUNY schools are closing for a week and the the rest of the semester will be online classes. Spring break was schedule to start today- that's why they are closed! I am nervous just because my husband has to walk into a hospital every single day (after taking the LIRR and subway) and then come back home- I have an underlying heart condition. I'm not normally one who panics, but I"m getting nervous now.
Example-- reports that all CUNY/SUNY schools are closing for a week and the the rest of the semester will be online classes. Spring break was schedule to start today- that's why they are closed!
Some schools start spring break next week and were told yesterday the rest of the year would be online classes.

"Gov. Andrew Cuomo, facing a mounting COVID-19 outbreak unmatched by any other U.S. state but one, announced Wednesday that SUNY and CUNY schools, with hundreds of thousands of students, will implement distance learning for the remainder of the spring semester starting next week. The move, which mirrors that of hundreds of other campuses across the country, is part of what the governor described as a three-prong strategy — testing, reduced density and communication — to contain the spread of coronavirus, which has now infected more than 200 people in New York. Officials with CUNY and SUNY said the new plan will begin on March 19, saying that it gives them time to develop their plans and ramp up the procedure."
Fact, not media hype.

Will they still be living in their dorms though? Or forced to go home? Because if they are still living in the dorms, going to eat in the dining areas, going to parties and bars- well this isn't going to do much.

My niece goes to Geneseo and they have the “option” to stay on campus but are strongly encouraged to return home for the duration of the semester. She is coming home permanently. I feel so bad for the kids whose Senior years are completely disrupted by this.

Re: Are you changing your plans and routines because of coronavirus?
nassau county just asked the coliseum to cancel the Jurassic park shows that were scheduled this weekend.
my DD gym pulled them from a cheer comp. My DD is so disappointed it was their first one for them of the season!!
my DH is thrilled cuase he did not want us to go!!
at this point just do the 2 week quarantine mandate and get it over with.
I am sick of hearing the complaining the worrying the hypes, the rumors going around.
I really dont want the mandatory quarantine because that means my DH will not get paid unless he uses hours which he does not have to cover a long period of time so it will hurt us financially!!

Thank you. And yea Nell, the description does nothing for what it actually looks like
Surgeon was so cool about it. Ohhh this happens. Leaving it open and packed will make it heal faster and less of a chance of infection. Because it allows for proper drainage. I want to vomit typing that. Visiting nurse starts tmrw. Fingers crossed we don’t get sick. If we get anything, they aren’t coming and I have to do this. I had trouble when it was one spot of the incision. Now the entire thing is open and I might just pass out from the site. He had 25 staples just to give you an idea on how friggin big this thing is Wahhhhhhhhhhhhh

I'm not paranoid but I have stocked up on extra food uhh case we are forced to stay home. I don't want to panic if they put the state on lockdown. Not that I think they will di that but IF they do, I dnt want to deal with supermarket crap.
This is crazy. Locking down a state. They don't do that for the flu, which is way more rampant. Crazy.
I was going to say, sorry but this IS paranoid behavior. Im reading stories that people are stocking up on bottled water. Costco can't keep them in stock. People want it because they fear being quarantined. I don't get you. You have running water! Makes no sense at all.
Well here I am eating my words. Can't believe what's being done. Everything is shutting down. Never thought it would come to this. MissJones my apologies!

I am in a quiet state of stress. Wth am I going to do with 3 kids home for 2 weeks?. I better start planning a project.
It's not a rumor. We are potentially looking at a shutdown (Island Wide) for at least 2 weeks. I'm dizzy just thinking about it. There's so much going on.
I’m right there with you. I can work from home easily and think yesterday was my last day in the office. But I’m stressed on how long this will go on and the constant unknown disruption. We’ve already canceled vacations, plans, parties, etc. I have elderly relatives who are still living their life and I’m scared. This is not something any of us have dealt with. I’m also super worried about this economy and my company.
Me too! Im so stressed out about all this. We just put our dog down last Wednesday, we have plans to take the kids to Disney March 30, my kids are having such a great school year. I hate not knowing what is going to happen. I went to 5 stores today, bought no toilet paper, wipes or hand sanitizer but Im good with bread, cookies and cheez its. I just pray that everyone gets healthy soon. I have 3 kids and work in a pre school. Im worried about the parents that work and depend on school and sitters to help them out.

I’m so sorry to hear about your dog. It’s so unbelievably hard.
I’m hoping that with things shutting down and less interaction, it’ll slow the spread enough for the hospitals to keep up. They are really having a hard time keeping up with this new virus plus the usual stuff. The hospital staff is exhausted and strained.
While we were at the dr today, the nurse said her godson works at a local hospital and woman came into the ER. When asked if she traveled outside the country recently, she said it was none of their business and refused to answer. They removed her from the hospital. This is the shit they are dealing it. Selfish people who refuse to adhere to these simple guidelines to keep everyone safe. Especially those just doing their jobs who want to get home safely to their families.

How did you hear about Nassau asking to cancel Jurassic world? We have tickets for the 22nd. We aren’t going to go now, but we only get our money back if they cancel. I’ve been hoping for it! We have 10 tickets at over $60 each

No gatherings over 500 people allowed in NYS according to the governor.

It’s going to get worse. I’m about a week or two ahead of you guys. Everyone here is just kind of waiting for the government to make a decision. More people are working from home and the trains are pretty quiet.
I want them to do a lockdown and I just want to get it over with. Closing the borders does no good when the virus is already being passed around inside the borders. I just don’t know what Germany is waiting for. My only guess is there is a major election this Sunday.
Fingers crossed (or press the thumbs as they say here) that they do the right thing soon!

I’m trying to be positive that we are getting control with all of these closures and now the stop of travel in and out of Europe. I think the states are making the right call by closing so many things before it gets way too out of control. Half of the cases here in NY came from one spot in NY from one particular guy and now that area within 1 mile is under strict quarantine.
I’m sorry it’s worse there. Please take care of yourself.

Re: Are you changing your plans and routines because of coronavirus?
For people who are carrying on like normal, please rethink your choices. We need to “flatten the curve” of this epidemic and the only way to do that is social distancing. We literally do not have enough ventilators for everyone who is going to need one if you don’t.

No worries!. I appreciate the apology. I'm in disbelief. This is like nothing we've ever seen!

I’m sorry about your husband and I hope he is getting the care he needs.
I just don’t get why they aren’t doing the quarantine here. There is one city that got quarantine, but that’s in the north. I have been isolating myself as much as possible. The good thing is that as a teacher I have the ability to do online classes, so they do have a plan in place.
And not to be too political, I agree with the closing of borders, but Trump made it so arbitrary. Like why not the UK and Ireland? They are a bit behind the US, but still. It just doesn’t make sense. Hopefully, the US will do a lockdown of cities.
My mom and sister were supposed to visit this week. I’m kind of glad they can’t because my mom is 70+, so we had been going back and forth about the visit.
But seriously people, isolate as much as possible now while it is still early— signed speaking from the future.
Kind of a funny story. I teach beginners some days. Tonight I had a new student from Italy. He wanted to know how to say “I don’t have Coronavirus.” That is a complicated structure for a beginner. I mean the lesson included teaching the numbers 1-10 and the alphabet. Poor guy. He must be getting a lot of flack about being Italian (lots of Italians in Munich). He then told me of all the troubles his family is having in Italy. I just don’t get it. The hospitals are pretty good in Italy (I went to one). I’m kind of scared what will happen in the US because I feel the hospitals over there are worse.
Please isolate yourself as much as you can.
