Hmm, I guess this explains why some women bring a thick plastic garbage bag and make the nail tech put it into the tub so they can soak in there, rather than directly into the "communal" pedicure sink...
But if the fungus/bacteria lives in the jets, then wouldn't this be a non-issue? The water is still flowing through those jets and although their feet aren't touching 'the tub', the water is what is carrying the bacteria. Or do you mean that these women don't use the whirlpool tub at all?
Exactly, their feet are never actually in the tub at all. They put that bag in, fill it with water and THEN they put their feet in there. I have seen it a few times...
I have been going to the same salon for 10 years and I see them wash those pedicure tubs thoroughly before each use, but after this thread I am kind of starting to think of a plastic garbage bag of my own...

Also be aware that there are different types of fungues, ones of the nail and ones of the skin, under the nail.
