At home hair color...
I can no longer afford to have my hair colored, and my roots are getting out of CONTROL!!!
My natural color is light brown, and I'm looking for a light/medium blonde color, but more importantly, I'm looking for recomendations for a good brand.
Any suggestions?? TIA

Re: At home hair color...
Do you have grey hairs? I have been dying my hair for years and the best one in my opinion to cover up those subborn greys is Grey Solution by Nice and Easy. People can't believe I dye my hair, I am not sure how grey I am by now but my roots are very white!!

I don't know how well it covers greys....yet.... but I've used Loreals Superior Preference and I was very happy with it. It also comes with a tiny tube of 'color saving conditioner' that you can use to boost the color.
One thing I always forget is to buy two boxes because I have super long hair (to my butt).

Re: At home hair color...
I just started coloring my hair myself to save some money and started using Federic Fekkai at home color. It's pricer than drug store brands (its' $30), but my hair has never been shinier! And it's still cheaper than the salon.
I usually buy it from Drugstore.com bc sometimes they have free shipping offers and free gifts.

Re: At home hair color...
OMG, I was in the same situation and I had my mom start doing my highlights again. But recently I decided I wanted to go back brown.
So I did a little research , and remeber Allure's top beauty buys recommending Feria all over color. I actually had a friend use it too.
So I checked out the colors for a while and made a decision.
I was medium brown with very blonde highlights. I choose Havanna Brown, I believe its #50. There are some highlights in the front that are still light but that maybe the way I applied it. But they actually look good.
Its a gorgeous color. I think its the best color brown I have had including when I was going to the salon.
It was on sale at Rite Aid for like $8.

Re: At home hair color...
a year ago I started with clariol natural insticts...no complaints. I do have to make sure I apply first to grays since they need extra work. (Its non permanent)

I was so close to getting Perfect 10 because of the applicator.
If you do another brand I suggest going to Sally's and getting the brush like they use in the salon. They use it to paint the color on. It was like $.50. It helped a lot in putting the color on my hairline, on my roots where I part my hair, and underneath.

Not sure where you live, but the Sally Beauty store in Farmingville sells a brand called ion that I like and one of the girls that work there is very helpful/knowledgeable on color shades, what to mix, etc. It would cost you anywhere from about $8-$15 depending on size and if you're mixing more than 1 color.

I also goto Sallys and get the professional stuff. I feel it actually colors my hair while the box stuff at the drug store I feel like it washes out quickly. I use one of the L'Oreal brands for stubborn greys. The first purchase is the largest one; getting the cape, the bowl, brush, and anti skin staining stuff, but after that it's so cheap. I figured it out yesterday and it costs me 6 dollars per dye. Much better than 60+ at the salon.

Re: At home hair color...
I dye my hair about twice a year to get rid of the grey using Garnier Nutrisse (it smells great compared to the others) and for the root touchups I use Clairol root touch-up.
There are a variety of colors and I love that it minimizes the messiness with having to dye your whole head...
