At what age did you let DC ride in the main part of a shopping cart?

It is getting so annoying trying to shop with them in the double stroller. I can only buy whatever will fit in the basket underneath. The only place on earth with a shopping cart that they can both sit up front in is Costco.

So when did you let DC ride in the basket part? I could put one up front and one in the main part and at least be able to buy diapers and stuff. TIA.

I generally dont even now at 3.

But King Kullen in RVC has double carts where they could both ride in the top part!

I hate doing it, but I have to admit I do it every once in awhile because I just don't want to drag the stroller in and out of the car, I totally feel your pain. Its one of those things I swore I'd never do. I put DD in the main part because she is usually better at listening and won't stand up if I tell her she needs to sit down. I didn't start doing this until very recently though. (and they are 2 now)

E2 has ridden in there a few times recently - he'll be 3 in May.

DD is 3 and I have only done with once because I had to take them both to target. Usually I will leave one home with DH. She did really well which I was surprised about.

I started around 2. You have to be more aware obviously but for the most part, DS just sits and plays with a book or something while I shop!

I am wacky too! Thats the only part DS will sit in now at 3yo. But be careful about letting him stand, I am sorry to say that just before he turned 2, DS did have 1 fall from the back! He was fine, but I didnt realize he was standing moved the cart and he tumbled.

DS is 15 months old and I have let him ride in the basket part once. But I pulled the cart from that end and held onto him. I won't let him back there by himself. The sound a head makes when it hits the hard floor is sickening. And it happens a least once a day in every store...It is too risky IMO...I know it is a PITA with 2. When I worked as a nanny, I had 2 kids 15 months apart. I always had to bring the double stroller. Or I had my mom with me....If the basket part is really high and she can't climb out or fall over, then maybe..

Ditto. Although I have no idea how old he was when I started letting him. Never thought anything of it. ....he is 4 1/2 now.

We just started doing this within the past month or so out of necessity. My younger DS isn't in his infant carrier anymore so I needed to put him in the seat of the cart. So now DD rides in the basket. She's almost 20 months.

DS is 2 and I've only done it a couple of times, he sits so nicely in the upper part of the cart and this way I can fill up the larger part, otherwise he will be going to town with everything I am buying.

Re: At what age did you let DC ride in the main part of a shopping cart?

I put my kids in the top part at about 6 months. I don't like to put my older one into the main shopping cart. He walks. I did it once at Target to corral him, but he almost fell out when someone bumped into my cart. I don't think it is safe so I don't do it. My local grocery store has double top parts and many shopping cart configurations so I use them instead.

DS has been doing this for about 6 or 7 months. He doesnt want to sit in the seat part anymore

He is 2 1/2

He usually just sits and reads a book or plays with one of his cars.

Re: At what age did you let DC ride in the main part of a shopping cart?

I did a few times a few months ago. DS was around 20 months. He was going through a phase where he didn't want to be up front. I thought it was no big deal, until he did fall out from the back. Thank goodness it was a small cart so it wasn't as far of a fall as it could've been (although that's probably why he was able to fall out), and he fell onto carpeting, but it was very scary nonetheless. I have never put him in the back since. And he just quickly got over not wanting to sit up front.
