There was some confusion about the STAR tax "rebates". To the OP, I live in Merrick. When we bought our house in 2006 our taxes were $9500, they are now $12k+ Had I known our taxes were going to increase by $1k on a yearly basis I would have NEVER bought this house and unfortunately we are stuck here now b/c of the housing market. It is a beautiful area and great school district. Nassau County reassessed the homes and we got a letter saying our dropped 17% (which was for all of Nassau I think) so I am hoping our taxes will go down as well but I am sure they will figure something out so we are still paying the same I cant believe they have been increasing $1000 a year. That is ridiculous!!! Can you try to grieve them?
