Spinoff to Average Property Taxes - LI only
i know $$ amount was posted on last thread but curious to know what is paid by county and acreage
suffolk, $11, 560 w/ star, 1.2 acres

$8000/ star - half acre in brookhaven
and I am being overtaxed - most of the houses in my neighborhood are on a third of an acre and pay $6000 w/star

what? i am also in the TOS but have 1.2 acres w/ an IG pool and pay less than you. how old is your house? mine was built in the 60's.

We have not been reassessed yet, with our contruction project. I am going to estimate our taxes will be around 15k next year.
I heard they go up gradually over 8 years, so we shall see

I always thought that property tax was based more on the house than the amount of land, so Person A with 1 acre and a 1000sf house may pay $5,000, but their next door neighbor with the same size lot, but a 3000sf house might pay $19,000.
Or, am I totally off-base with my assumption?

it's not always about the land. If you have a legal 2 your taxes will be higher as well.
I have a 4 bd 2 bath in Bethpage with .21 acre. I pay 7200 w/o star.

Could depend on your school district too. Are you in Smithtown or Commack schools?
