Re: Baby Ear Piercing
I had my daughter's done was she was 4 months old, and I am so glad I did. She loves her pierced ears, but she is terrified of needles so she is very happy i had them done when she doesn't remember.
On a side note, please please please be careful with little clips for baby girls. When my daughter was 8 months old she pulled the clip out of her hair and ate it. Thank god there was a little hole in the middle of the clip to let air through. let's just say that was her first trip in an ambulance and the last time she had a clip in her hair until she turned 4!!

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
I personally hate those head bands. They always look like they're digging into the babies head. I know I hate when I have on a headband thats to tight. I love little hats. As far as piercings are concerned, my opinion I like them on babies. My mom had mine done when I was an infant. It makes healing abit easier because you won't touch them. I'm actually not sure what we are going to do with our , cause DH doesn't exactly feel like I do so the topic is stuff being discussed.

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
sorry to crash--but in my family....every single female has gotten their ears piereced by 3-4 months of age. i never really thought about it being bad before i came onto LIF and discovered so many people don't do it to babies. i don't know if it makes a difference that my entire family is hispanic, but its just something that "you do" with your baby girls for us.
but i suppose i can see why some people don't like it.

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
I think it's really cute, but don't know if I will be able to do it.
I will say I went with my 3 and 7 year old nieces when they wanted it done. It was a nightmare! It was probably a 2 hour process, they kept chickening out " I want it done, I dont want it done". My 3 year old niece had 1 ear done and screamed bloody murder. She wanted to leave with just the one earring done.

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
not a fan of headbands, ear piercing on girls younger than 10. They should be old enough to ask for them. If they are scared, then don't get it. Clips are cute if the child has hair

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
LOVE pierced ears on baby girls. I did my daughters at 3 months with tiny pearls for her Christening. I am not a fan at all of headbands or clips unless the baby has hair. Hats I love!

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
If I have a little girl I will have her ears pierced as soon as I can. I think it looks so cute on a little girl. I had my done when I was a few weeks old my mother told me. IMO I've never heard of a girl/woman say they were mad/upset that they had there ears pierced when they were younger. And I feel thay they won't even remember the pain of it if they have it done younger. Everyones different and will do what they want and no choice is the wrong choice.

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
I tend to find that it's a cultural thing among those with a Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox background (Italian, Greek, Puerto Rican, etc.). Being that I come from a rather strong WASP background, pierced ears have never been a priority. Maybe it's my Puritan ancestry's shunning of anything flashy that is continuing in me today. Who knows? Plus, I already told my IL's that I don't want any gender specific clothing or accessories for this child to be. (This stated after my FIL said if it's a boy he can get him baseball stuff.) Having said that, as you can see I'm really not that interested in utilizing pierced ears as a means of telling the world I have a girl.

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
I had mine done at only a few months old- and I am NOT against having DD's done at a few months either- I think it is cute... but part of me wants to wait until she is old enough to ask me, so that we can make a special day out of it- Cheesy probably... not sure what we are going to actually do though

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
I have no problem or concern about what other parents decide to do. It doesn't bother me either way.
However, I wont be piercing my daughter's ears at a young age.
My decision stems mostly from what my mother chose to do when I was young:
My 3 older sisters had to wait until they were 13 years old. Me, being the youngest, begged to get them pierced at age 11. I had to get each one of my sisters to say yes before I was allowed to get them pierced.
It was a HUGE deal to me back then. I felt so grown up! I have to say, the anticipation was worth it. It gave me something to look forward to.

Posted by EricaAlt Honestly, I'm not a fan of baby girls w/ pierced ears. If I have a girl I'd wait till she's old enough to make her own decision. I don't think it's so cute on babies. JMO.
I couldn't agree more.

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
I'm personally not a fan. I'll allow DD to pierce her ears when she's old enough to ask. She's 3.5 now & so far doesn't have much interest.

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
I love it on little girls. I had DD's done at about 4 months ( I actually did it) and if I have another girl Ill do it again. To me its so cute, and I didnt have pierced ears till I was 12 and was petrified so I'd rather do it when they dont understand.
Oh and BTW I might be going back to work a day or 2 a week where I used to pierce ears.. if anyone wants their future little ones ears pierced
