Baby Kevin is losing weight
My baby was born at 9lb,10oz. Last night, he was 9lb,1oz and tonight he is weighing in at 8lb,10oz....
Waiting to find out from the nurse if I need to supplement him with formula.
I know it is not THAT big of a deal but I wanted to EBF him for at least 6 months.....
good thoughts that he starts packing it on, he has been nursing ALOT so this makes me think that it is ME that is the problem (not producing enough) and not him
ETA - He has jaundice too so we may not be able to go home tomorrow......

Re: Baby Kevin is losing weight
just want to ease your fears alil... my dd lost a consderable amt of weight as well when i nursed her in the hospital..my ped totally expected it..and since he wasnt one of the drs at the hospital i delivered at, he told me to do whatever they wanted me to do to get out of there, and into his care..they expect a significant weight loss, and thankfully your son was born at a VERY healthy higher end weight.. my dd was 6'11 and went to 6lbs by the second day too..i had to supplement, but i will suggest if you do it, once Kevin starts gaining again, start to try and wean him off..since the more he gets from you, the better your supply will become.. good luck!! Im sure he will be just fine!!

Nina lost a pound by the time we left the hospital. I still only EBF. By her first ped. appointment she had gained some ounces back.

Re: Baby Kevin is losing weight
Just wanted to say this happened to DS too. What I was told was that if you have a c/section it takes longer than if you have a regular delivery to have your milk come in. It is important for the baby to nurse, but I had to supplement with formula in the hospital to get DS back up to his birth weight.
ETA: I agree w/ MommyAgain, continue nursing to help establish your supply and then give the formula. I was really upset when I had to do this in the hospital too. DS was born at 7 lbs 14 oz and went down to 7 lbs 2 oz. It took him over a week to regain the weight he lost.

Re: Baby Kevin is losing weight
josh was the same way.
with jaudice, we rented a pump from hospital and started giving bottles.
they let us go home, but we had to bring him in a few times a week to have his numbers check out

Re: Baby Kevin is losing weight
That is very common. In fact, the pediatrician said it was unusual that Cailen gained weight in the hospital - he said he rarely sees that, that it is so common for them to lose weight - plus Kevin has some good weight on him!!! Cailen went from 6 lbs 8 oz to 6 lbs 10 oz by the time he left....

Re: Baby Kevin is losing weight
Steph don't worry about it. He will be fine! Try pumping a bit and if you have to give him formula its not the end of the worls. Ask about that tube supplementer I told you aout because you can do formula in that to supplement but he will still be BF'ing
