Re: Baby Monitors.. which type?
Posted by LoveyQ We are getting a DIGITAL video monitor so that other people in our building can't pick up our signal and see our baby or hear any conversations we have near the monitor. This is very important to me since most video monitors can be picked up by other users of the same/similar monitor, police scanners, etc. etc.
This is why we went with audio, it freaked me out that people could "see" my DD if they wanted to. We are always careful about turning the audio monitor off when not in use.

Video... AND we live in a coop, not a house! lol. I just like the idea of checking in on baby once he/she has been put to bed without having to physically walk in there, which many babies then rely on.

Who makes the digital monitor? I didn't see a digital one when we registered at BRU

Seriously?? I thought video was such a waste of $$ You girls are making me rethink this now!
that's what my DH thinks along with he also thinks i'll go bonkers watching it and his great line of "our parents didn't need video so why do we?"
i don't know ahhhhh!!!
If we all used that mentality... we might as well still be using cloth diapers.
There's a point to bring up!!!

We registered for the Levana Video Monitor which is digital.
According to Baby Bargains, the other digital video ones are:
Graco iMonitor Video Vibe Safety 1st High Def Digital Video
There are probably more, but you have to make sure it says Digital or DECT technology.

The other thing is that, there's a lot of stuff we don't really NEEEEED for a baby, but they are things that would make our life a bit easier or more comfortable etc.
For example, you don't NEED a glider. You can use an old school rocking chair, or just rock a child in your arms. But a glider can make your life easier.
Same as electric breast pumps... you CAN use a manual one or just always have the baby on the boob (not if you go back to work though), but an electric one makes life easier (faster etc).
Same as a video monitor

I am doing audio De, because my IT geek husband is too nervous about people tapping our video one. We have a ranch though, so we really don't need it for some time. I have the angelcare monitor thanks to scarletbegonia/Vanessa as well.

Oh definitely not. There have been nights where I hear him cry and I can check on him with the video monitor to wait it out and see if he goes back to sleep - most of the time he does! If I went in there and then tried to leave he would be hysterical
ITA. I love the video monitor.

Re: Baby Monitors.. which type?
Speaking as a BTDT mom...........I never bothered with the video monitor. All my girlfriends who had kids before me insisted it was necessary but I could not justify putting it on my registry as it was SO expensive! Honestly, I have a fairly basic Sony audio monitor which was like $45-50 and it works GREAT! I can hear everything and there is no interference either. I don't miss not having video. When she is sleeping in her room I peek in on her as I am going through the house and at night I am sleeping.....not staying up to watch her sleep.
I know some people swear by them but I don't think they are worth the money. A basic audio monitor does the job just fine IMO.

ITA with your DH. Its scary enough to think someone might be listening to my quiet time with DS. And I was certainly able to tell if it was a I need help cry or an I'm trying to sucker you cry without having to see DS.
IMO I could probably find some reasons for having the video if I were having twins, more so than with a singleton. No matter what you choose De both are great. There is no wrong choice here.

Re: Baby Monitors.. which type?
I have a video and it was my saving grace at the beginning. I love that I can just click it on to check on her without disturbing her.
For those with twins- I believe the new summer video monitor has a camera that rotates 350 degrees, therefore you can click a button to switch back and forth between cribs. I saw it in action yesterday!

Re: Baby Monitors.. which type?
I have the summer digital best view that rotates 360 degrees. It has been our saving grace. Def. helped with getting my twins to sleep through the night. I also think it is a must have for twins. The monitor I got for my shower only covered one crib. So I could never see the other baby.

Re: Baby Monitors.. which type?
I love my video monitor. I still use it every night and DD is almost 2. We turn the video off at night and just keep the audio on. Then if I hear some noise I can just pop the picture on without having to get up.

I have the Summer Video one. It dies very quickly and gets tons of static. We already want to upgrade. HTH
