Back from the dr...anyone have the ingredients for Gerber Puffs handy?

It appears that DD is not screaming because of teething. She is eating something with milk protein in it.

My ped gave me a list of all ingredients that she needs to stay away from. I originally thought it was the Cheerios, but they don't have any of the ingredients. The only other thing I've given her is Gerber Puffs.

Stupid me ripped the entire label off when I opened it and I can't find a list of ingredients on line.

If anyone could share I'd really appreciate it. Also the container should have a circled U on it - if it has a "D" next to it it has a milk protein.

Thanks for your help!!!

My Banana Puffs have a U on it and they don't appear to have any milk- rice flour, whole grain oat, wheat starch, wheat flour, sugar, banana powder, natural flavor, tri- and dicalcium phosphate, banana puree, mixed tocopherols, zinc sulfate, alpha tocopheryl acetate, electolytic iron, caramel color, turmeric color, soy lecithin

Thanks Nicole. They say "Natural Flavoring" could indicate the presence of milk protein, but if there is no D next to the U then it probably doesn't.

Her wagon wheels does have the D. Could 1 wagon wheel cause a reaction???? That's all I gave her.

Which Gerber puffs? The circled U does not always mean there is no milk or milk protein in it, it can mean that the machines were cleaned in a way that the rabbi approved of and there can be residual left in the machine.

Andy's milk & milk protein allergic, I have a list of about 40 ingredients we have to look out for. Let me go find the link for you.....

ETA: Here's one link to the Food Allergy network

Here are a bunch of downloads from the food allergy network, you want the how to read a label one. The first list is milk

Carrot wagon wheels have milk, the apple ones do not. Go figure.

Thanks Cathy. It's so hard to find foods for them to eat. What have you been giving Andy? Where do you shop for his food?

I know. I was very overwhelmed at first. Still am a little, but it's getting easier.

He eats a lot of Neocate still and mainly boxed cereal, since he has been refusing baby food for months and chokes on table food at least once a week. Thank god I took the infant CPR class, it's come in handy on multiple occasions.

I usually shop in the King Kullen on Sunrise in Bellmore. These are mainly what he eats.
* Smart Balance margerine (only brand in King Kullen with no milk)
* Vans Organic waffles (healthy frozen section)
* Cheerios
* Apple wagon wheels
* Chex cereals (but he usually chokes on them)
* Wheat puffs by Quaker
* I forget which brand and we are out of it, but an organic cereal called Gorilla something.
* King Kullen Animal crakers
* fruit in mesh bag
* plain grilled chicken
* Nabisco arrowroot (Gerber ones have milk)
* Weight Watcher bread has no milk (at least the pita pockets don't)
* Gerber puffs (I have peach, strawberry apple & sweet potato right now)
* Just found Bullseye original BBQ sauce has no milk, I've read that a lot of times "caramel coloring" has milk in it.

I have been dealing with milk and egg allergies in my son since he was 8 months old - he's now 4. It does get easier...the new labeling laws make it much easier to find safe foods.

Always check labels even on something you thought was safe yesterday - companies change their ingredients all the time.

The "D" on the label is only for religious purposes, not allergy. My son can eat things with the D on the label as long as the ingredients do not actually contain milk, although your mileage may vary - always read ingredient labels. Not everyone is comfortable doing that.

Let me know if I can help. Another good resource for advice/info/recipes is Parents of Food Allergic Kids .

Best source for food fo my son is Super Stop & Shop, the local health food store and Whole Foods. Let me know if I can help at all - FM me any time.. Chat Icon

Edited to add: I don't know how old your DC is, but my son is a pretzel addict - when he was younger he loved Rold Gold Honey Wheat flavor!

Also, you should know that the new labeling law that started in 2006 no longer allows companies to "hide" any of the top 8 allergens in an ingredient like "natural flavorings"...they would have to state somewhere on the label if that actualy contained milk, otherwise they are not in compliance with the law.

Also, they can either highlight the allergens in the list of ingredients in bold, put it in parentheses e.g. "natural flavorings (from milk); OR they can have a list on the bottom of the ingredient list where they actually state what allergens are contained in the food. Every company has a different policy, so you really need to read all labels all the time.
