Back issues prior to pregnancy
So I have two herniated discs and three buldging discs which Ive had for years. I go through phases where my back will be killing me and I need to do more stretching and relaxing. So now that I am pregnant I am so nervous of what this pregnancy is going to be like for me with this issue. So far I have been feeling good, but im only like 7-8 weeks.
I try to walk everynight with DH for at least a half hour and do some stretches that ive done for years to help keep my back in line. Its hard though since the nausea and fatigue has kicked in pretty bad this week, ugh!
Has anyone started off their pregnancy with a bad back? Any BTDT moms or girls who are further along have any advice or stories of how they dealt with this?

Re: Back issues prior to pregnancy
I have a similar back issue to you...two herniated discs with degeneration (L4 and L5). I've been in PT for years. Unfortunately I am also someone who has a larger chest (36D) so it doesn't help my back either. I'm only 6w today in my pregnancy and as of last week I was experiencing some bad back pain. It comes and goes as it does prior to me being pregnant. I did post about this last week and going to PT during pregnancy. Many other girls who responded said they went to PT during their pregnancies for their back pain but just to make sure you see someone who knows how to work on a pregnant woman. I know exactly how you feel so I hope for your sake you have a happy pregnancy with NO back pain! Good luck!

Re: Back issues prior to pregnancy
Thanks so much! My sister actually just started at a new PT place, I should ask her if they are certified to do pre natal work.
We are very similar. I am a 36 C-D and that doesnt help my back either, and these torpedos that have grown in the last week are starting to make my upper back achy already! So, i keep on stretching and it seems to be working for now.
My biggest fear is that I will be put on bedrest later on in my pregnancy
ETA I just found your post from the other day and it was very helpful. I must have missed it

Re: Back issues prior to pregnancy
Bedrest has been my exact fear even before I got pregnant....I really hope not for both of our sakes. I've been doing modified ab exercises (I did exercise regularly before getting pg) and also stretching...Between the two I hope they help. I'm also going to start taking prenatal yoga which many of my friends swear by.

Ive been doing some yoga poses prior to being pregnant along with my stretches I got from my PT years ago and so far ive been feeling good. I also googled some yoga poses suitable for preggos so I do those now too. Im still on the search for a good prenatal yoga DVD since I dont have the extra time or money for an actual class.

Re: Back issues prior to pregnancy
I know you saw the other post...but another thing that I know always makes my back worse is sitting. So make sure if you are resting you alternate between sitting and laying down. It is also best to lay on your side with a pillow between your legs.
I have a bad back and I have been on bedrest for a week and a half and so far so good...fingers crossed!
