Bad stomach problems after C/section???

Hoping osmeone can help me or tell me if they have experienceed this.

I had my c/s about 11 days ago now. A week ago I started having bad diarehhea, followed a day later with nauesa and horrible gas, and some vommitting. It has just gotten worse over the last week.

The Dr. Has me on Zantac, Zofran and Immodium AD and its not working well.

the nausea I wake up with is so bad, I can barely move my head.

I havent been able to take care fo the babies well and am getting more depressed at feeling so sick.

I finally went to the ER on Sun and they did some blood work ( infection etc) and that was normal. They did a Cat scan and that showed normal.

I know theres a million other things and tests, but they said it "could" be a bad bad virus and sent me home.

Told me to follow up with my Dr. ( OB) ...today if still sick. I woke up worse then ever today and called my OB...and am STILL waiting to hear back from him.

I feel like at this point they are gonna refer me to a gastro dr. or something, but I just dont knwo what to do. I cannot go on much longer like this.

I havent eaten in a week, other then Gatorade and the occasional Cracker or piece of toast which I have to force down.

Did this happen to ANYONE?

I feel like it has to be C/s related?

TIA!

I didn't have it as bad as you, but I had a problem where everything I ate went right through me. There were some days I didn't want to eat b/c I didn't feel like running to the bathroom every 5 mins.

Re: Bad stomach problems after C/section???

I do remember that my stomach was messed up after the csection.

I also remember having the sickest pains (from gas) about 2 weeks after. I could hardly move.

Yours does sound more serious though - I was always able to eat. Hoping your dr. calls you back soon.

Re: Bad stomach problems after C/section???

After my friend's second c-section she had similar problems to you. Turns out she had an infection in her intestines called c-difficile. They were able to diagnose it with a stool sample. After a course of heavy duty antibiotics she was back to her normal self. Hope you get to the bottom of this soon Chat Icon

Re: Bad stomach problems after C/section???

I didn't have a c-sec, but since DS' birth, I've had horrible gas pains and heart burn every single day. I never had gas before PGcy. My OB just dismissed it and told me if it exists past the 12wk post partum mark to call a gastro. Chat Icon

I'm almost at 11wks and no relief yet.

Prob 3 weeks or so. My stomach still felt bubbly after that but I didn't have to run to bathroom right afterwards for prob another week or so.

My OB said it was perfectly normal because they shift stuff around when they are in there doing the c-section.

my stomach is messed up after the section but I have ulcerative colitis so I think its just acting up

I do know how horrible it is to be really sick with such a small baby tho

I had mastitis 1 week PP, and then had a PP hemorrhage almost 3 weeks PP. I had a fever for 2 weeks straight, and was almost hospitalized twice. I felt so guilty, like I couldnt take care of my own Chat Icon

it will get better, things are probably just moving back to where they were, you know?? plus they shift stuff around like crazy during the surgery so maybe your body is just readjusting Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Bad stomach problems after C/section???

I didn't feel like that but made a post about having changes in my bowel habits.

I did see a gastro b/c I was worried about having picked up an intestinal bacterial infection in the hospital called C. Difficile.

I tested negative (stool sample) so for me it just seems I have a bit of colitis since having DD.

But for you, you need to see a gastro ASAP in case it's c difficile which can happen after a hospital stay or esp a csection.

ETA- Be very careful with washing your hands after using the bathroom, in case you do have an intestinal infection. You would not want to pass that on to your family members or babies (fecal contamination).

I think you should see a gastro, please don't let it go.

Re: Bad stomach problems after C/section???

My friend had similar symptoms after her c/s and had to have her gall bladder removed.

I'm assuming they checked for that in the ER?

Not to be gross but they need a stool sample...unless they made you give them one in the ER< I dont believe they can diagnose it. And my results took a few days to come back fyi. Def stay on top of it. Chat Icon

Yes! Mine happened about 5 days post c/s. Not to be gross, but it was like hot water was running through and out of me. The gas was so painful. It cleared up in a couple of days but it was brutal.

I had this. Not sure where you live, but I have a great Gastro.

All of Blood work came back normal. Then I had a test that checks to see how your gall bladder is functioning, and mine was not.

I had it removed. The Doctor said it is very common to have gall bladder problems after having a child.

OOOPPPSSs
Just read that you had it removed. Maybe you could have stones in the bile duct. It can cause those symptoms.

I didnt even think of hormones! I have a sensitivity to them, well I did with my last PG before this, maybe thats partially it....Thanks for posting that.

I'm doing a tiny bit better today, trying to just fight through it.

thanks for all the advice.
