Balanced billing.
We don't have balanced billing and lest just say I owe lipa some money
It says balance billing is 150.00 a month. Some times the bill is less then that sometimes more... im nervous at the end of the year I will owe them a crap load of money. '
We are also not on balanced billing for slomins and uhhhh we have our last bill from them for 800.00 that I have to pay.

Re: Balanced billing.
I know with ConEd in NYC they actually tell you every month where you stand on your balanced billing.
If my balanced billing payment was $150, they would say "If you weren't on balanced billing your bill today would be $105". If it was lower, that means I am under and that's good.
In the winter and spring months I would usually be way under. Then once Summer hits I would eventually go over and hopefully by December i'd be back to point.
But I usually ended up oweing anyways. Not a fan of Balanced Billing in general.
I just make sure I have the bottle of Tequilla ready when that Slomins bill shows up in my mailbox for a delivery.

Yeah that's rough. 150 days of oil usage. Averaging 1.3 gallons a day at $4.00 a gallon is $780.
I think these companies purposely try to keep balanced billing payments lower because the lower payments look "more attractive" to clients. Then the client usually just gets whacked at the end with an overage.

Re: Balanced billing.
You should talk to the company about the balanced billing. Our oil balanced billing went up from the previous year due to oil price increases. But now it is $300/month and I know what it is. I would rather that than large bills at delivery time. But that is just me.
For LIPA they adjust the balanced amount periodically throughout the year based on usage.

Re: Balanced billing.
We have done balanced billing for years and we have never owed. After the first full year on it, DH got a sense of what we spent over the whole year. The first year, they had upped our payments the last three months to level it out. Now, we pay $50 more a month than they ask for because we divided what we spent for one year total by 12 months.

Re: Balanced billing.
LIPA is anal about adjusting your balanced billing. All it takes is for a month or two for your usage to exceed what they thought it would be, and your balanced billing goes up. There have been years that our balanced billing has been adjusted 3 or 4 times. In 10+ years we have never owed at the end, our last bill is always less.

Re: Balanced billing.
LIPA says on the bill when you do balanced billing how you are doing. So you know if you owe or have a credit.

Re: Balanced billing.
We use balanced billing and they readjust it every few months depending on your usage. Usually in the winter it is $199/mo but in the summer it went up to $211/mo. I do the balanced billing b/c the thought of looking at a $400+ monthly bill in the summer from the CAC makes me crap my pants

Re: Balanced billing.
I would never do balance billing. It would totally bother me if I know I overpaid one month and they had my money

Re: Balanced billing.
I do balanced billing and find it very convenient for budgeting purposes. I hate not knowing how much my bill will be from month to month.
They readjust your bill after a few months if it looks like the balanced billing is off. And you will know ahead of time if you will have a balance due at the end of the year so there aren't any surprises.

Re: Balanced billing.
I wouldnt do balanced billing either. Cant you just make 100 or 200 payments a month, so that at least you are paying something?
We owed LIPA over 800 and I just payed it in small increments 200 till it was payed. They never bothered me either. I think if you just show you are making payments they will not say anything. Slomins, I dont know about, but doesnt hurt to try and send them something. good luck.

Ours in always less at the end of the year too.. we are paying 202 a month right now and have been for almost 2 years.
