banking cord blood for 2nd child
We banked DS with CBR. We were both on the same page about doing this with DS and felt very strongly about it.
Now I'm prego with #2 and DH wants to do it, but I'm on the fence.
Thoughts? Anyone do it for all their children? 1?
Thanks!

Re: banking cord blood for 2nd child
I'm going to do it again for DS#2.
There is a possibility it could be used to help siblings, so I feel I have to do equal for both of them even if the chance is small.

Same here. Unfortunately, we have a high-risk family Both my dh & I have/had several immediate family members with blood cancers (lymphoma & leukemia) that are treatable w/CB...because of this, the thought that we may need the CB some day is always in the back of my mind. We're not having a 2nd dc yet, but when the time comes we will be banking...

I would do it for DC #2. I see it as insurance - something you hope you never ever have to use.

Re: banking cord blood for 2nd child
I did it for both boys and not sure about the third child - I feel like we have enough to go around at this point. Someone on here told me it wasn't necessary for a third but I called Viacord and they said it was - but of course they'll say that.

i did it for both. i've read that often a sibling's blood can be better. this way they each have their own and a siblings. turns out they are also both the same blood type. i just felt more secure having it.

Re: banking cord blood for 2nd child
I did it for #2. Just because they are siblings does not mean they would be able to use each other's cord blood, at least that's what I was told.
If we had a 3rd, I probably wouldnt do it again.

Re: banking cord blood for 2nd child
Our friends did it for DC #1 with CBR and with DC #2 with Viacord. No real reason, they thought companies where equivalent, and they had discounts they could only use once in each company.
But cord blood is more likely to be used on a sibling than on the child themselves, FYI.
