Honestly, Tatjana, this is a ridiculous point that you're bringing up (again, in a second thread). Yes, he has a Muslim father, a Muslim middle name and attended a Muslim school (for two years). Does that make him a terrorist? No.
So, even if he identifies strongly as a Christian, and even if he despised the behavior of his father (as Obama said on Oprah); is a man who Muslims think is a Muslim, who feels some sort of psychological need to prove himself to his absent Muslim father, and who is now moving in the direction of his father's heritage, a man we want as President when we are fighting the war of our lives against Islam? Where will his loyalties be?
He wants to learn about his father's heritage, aka his heritage. That's bad how? He grew up without his father around, interracial, looking black, with a white mother. It doesn't bother me at all that he's interested in learning about his Kenyan history.
As PPs have said, we are not fighting a war against Islam. We want to protect ourselves, our country and our interests abroad from Islamic extremists, but they are a small segment of Muslims.
The fact that the idea of a Muslim running for president makes you react so strongly disappoints me. It's disheartening that in this day and age we worry about someone's religion, rather than the fact that they are smart, capable, brave, ethical and carry themselves in a way that we can be proud of and look up to. That's what I look for in a leader and a president.

The thing is, many people think like Tatjana and THAT is why Obama is not electable as a president.
We live in a country where more people vote for American Idol than the US election. How many people do you really think research the issues and vote accordingly? I'm sure plenty do, but I'm sure plenty don't. I think many people look at someone's name, gender, race, whatnot and vote accordingly. While its not the way it SHOULD be done, its the way it IS done.

It is very sad that some Americans will not vote for the best candidate. There can be more than one. They will vote without knowing the facts, do no research and make up their minds soley on one thing.

I agree.
I will never understand how people can be so blindly prejudiced against a group of people (along gender, race, religious or any other lines) that they will treat them differently than any other person in the same situation. It's sad to know that racism and discrimination are not only alive and well, but something people will talk about without shame.

I agree with this. I've seen the picture and see NOTHING disrespectful about what he's doing. Plenty of people stand like that for the National Anthem.
Like I said, I don't agree with him politically, but these ridiculous accusations have got to stop.
You do not salute during the national anthem....just when you say the pledge of allegiance.
I too saw that picture and the other 2 people in the picture were wrong, not Obama
I think its so ridiculous that people pick on the dumbest things....

One is narrow-minded and ignorant if she has NO desire to actually learn the TRUTH behind stuff like this.
I AM politically conservative (probably much more libertarian than Republican, but I consider myself a Republican generally speaking) -- and I'm appalled by the people who buy into this crap and actually think it's important.
It's such a complete and utter WASTE OF TIME. THINK -- think about the real issues, think about the real ideals of America, think about anything remotely important and intelligent... but don't be a blind follower who reads crap like this and doesn't question it. Don't be someone who throws out stuff like this instead of proving she can intelligently talk about real issues. Don't hide behind these lies and misconceptions. Question things and be able to discuss the important issues. We should be after the truth and let the election come down to stances on issues (on which intelligent, informed people can and often do disagree...) - we shouldn't be out to spreadh ridiculous articles like this around.
You can believe whatever you want, but when you put crap like that out into the world, you just serve to spread lies, misconceptions, and ignorance around the country. That doesn't help ANYONE.

I am pretty much as Conservative as they come, and don't want either Deomocratic nominee as my future President, but that has NOTHING to do with names, religion, or sex. Even if he was Muslim, so what? You think he is going to blow up the U.S or something? It is not like he has some button under his desk he can press and release some weapon of mass destruction.
People need to educate themselfs on their policies not on their canidates religion. If we spent as much time reading the Constitution, and educating ourselfs on FACTS instead of ridiculous proganda that only distracts us from the real issues, imagine the functional country we would have.

Thank you, Violet. I'm an Obama supporter. I think he's a great candidate and would make a fantastic president. But I respect anyone who feels otherwise, just so long as it's based on facts, merit, policy or experience. Political disagreements are inevitable and not at all a bad thing. They only become a bad thing when they are based on irrelevant (sometimes untrue) points of interest.
