Re: Barbara Walters just suggested on the View...
I think separate sections on a plane might be more of a nuisance. Get a few of those little buggers in close proximity of each other, then you might have more screaming, playing, kicking etc. My DD gravitates toward children. She'd think we were on a playdate if she were in a section full of them!

I don't have children (yet) but I don't mind being near them on a plane.
I think there is a valid point with animals bc if you have bad allergies then sitting next to a dog or a cat can be really brutal...
But kids? that seems silly to me.
NOT joking, but my brother and SIL were on a plane last week with a ROOSTER on it.

I don't see why this is such a bad idea. Especially if certain planes could be outfitted to accommodate families with kids. Extra bassinet room and a small place for kids to get up and move around without disturbing others.
I certainly agree with your point but I do not see the airlines ever providing more room for smaller people. If anything, they would find a way to cram in more seats in a kid section.
Oh I agree! But we can dream can't we

There IS a separate section....it's called FIRST CLASS. Pony up if you don't like it....do we forget there are ADULTS that can't STFU on planes too?????? I had one behind me for 3 hours coming home from Miami. I would have given my left ovary (not the right ) for it to be a kid, at least they don't know better.....

Wait does first class not allow children under a certain age?
I never realized that!

It may depend on the airline. I've never seen an infant or very small in child in business class but have seen older children. They are always well behaved in my experience.

Re: Barbara Walters just suggested on the View...
Im going to get blasted, I actually wrote a letter to Jetblue, suggesting that parents put dirty diapers in a ziploc bag, So I dont have to pay 400 to go to florida and smell crap then entire time...
I was twisted I was on a flight from hell with screaming kids and an old people travel group.. NOT FUN..

Re: Barbara Walters just suggested on the View...
I think a child friendly airline is a great idea. As a mom of 2 toddlers who flew once I had so much anxiety because I was worried about other passengers if my kids got loud. Plus, gear it towards kids maybe provide the paper placemates and crayons like Friday's and Chili's does.

That is disgusting and I would have been annoyed too. At least the mom could have asked the flight attendant if they had any extra bags or she could have looked for a bag.

It's not a terrible idea...I get stressed when DD whines or screams...I am hyper-aware of disturbing other people.
the mother behind me on a 7am flight yesterday was having a rough time
her son was 13 months and I think the pressure was too much for his ears- we climbed so fast - it was alot for my ears
he was crying, kicking my seat and miserable
I admit- I was annoyed- it was a 7am flight- I had to work when we landed and I got up at 4:30am- I was hoping to rest-
I think it's a good idea- not just for those of us traveling alone- but so parents don't have to be stressed as well

how about a 3 or 4 year old having to go to the bathroom and the mother taking the air-sick bag and having him go in there rather then get up
pee shot up everywhere- it landed on her and almost on me
Delta- FL - thanksgiving weekend..not fun

This is what I was going to say--I've been on some flights where this has happened the WHOLE flight. I flew back from Phoenix after a work conference (hung over to boot) and had a 1 1/2-2 yr old that screamed for 5 hours straight.
Also FYI, some airports have separate security lines for this reason. I fly in and out of Logan 1-2 times a month and they have a "business traveler" line, a "casual traveler" line and a "Families with Children" line. If they have it for security, why not for the flight too?

Re: Barbara Walters just suggested on the View...
Usually I do not mind children on the plane. I just flew and on the way to my destination, the plane was packed with kids and they were all very well behaved. Last night on my return flight, however, it was a different story. Maybe Barbara was on my flight.

I have seen kids in first class. I can't imagine there's an age limit - as long as people will pay the fare I don't think the airline will say no.
I can't think of one flight where a child was behaving so badly that it stuck in my mind. This includes the 10+ trips to Orlando.
On the other hand, I can name NUMEROUS times there was some obnoxious adult that annoyed me for hours on end.

Re: Barbara Walters just suggested on the View...
I do agree to some degree. I think that childrn under the age of 6 or so are VERY annoying on flights. I can't tell you haw many times Ihave had my seat kiked in, the kid has to go to the bathroom every five seconds making the whole row stand up, the fighting over toys, the running up and down the aisle during stretch time. I mean, it's bloody awful.
Now if i t is 13 and above, then all aboard!

Re: Barbara Walters just suggested on the View...
Flame me, but I think this is a good idea. I know a lot of parents get anxiety taking their kids on flights-and it would just ease them a little better.
For my 12 hour HM flight, there was a little boy next to us-n he was fine the entire time! But...on the way back from the Bahamas one time, one woman could NOT control her kid behind me and all he did was kick my seat HARD and I couldnt take it. I was like-are you serius-to my DH. He said he heard the woman say she was goin to slap me, lol. I think a lot of people would be in a better mood, haha.

Re: Barbara Walters just suggested on the View...
my well behaved child-yes!
I think that's hitting the proverbial nail on the head. Well behaved children should be welcomed anywhere (barring bars, nudie shows, and other age inappropriate places).
It's up to parents to decide whether or not the kid SHOULD be there and to ensure their child behaves.
To me, it doesn't matter if we are flying coach or first class, I'll still keep my kid in check. Neither class is more entitled to fly peacefully nor is either more deserving of being subjected to a misbehaving child/irresponsible parent.
But in the case Beth described with a toddler who's ear drums are bursting it would be hard for a parent to keep them in check (I would imagine, not a parent yet)...
I for one do not mind kids on a plane and as others pointed out have always found adults MUCH more annoying and hard to take which is why I work with kids

Re: Barbara Walters just suggested on the View...
I think it's a good idea...
I've been on lots of flights with kids. Usually they are well-behaved, but I'll admit that I cringe when I am seated near a baby. Once I sat next to a young guy traveling alone with an infant and he was sooooooo worried about disturbing people and the baby kept making cute baby noises - didn't bother me and I appreciated that he was making an effort to keep the baby calm.
What annoys me more is the older kids who kick my seat repeatedly! That happens way more often than a noisy baby, and I do ask them to stop
However... our overnight flight to Rome had a toddler who managed to scream/yell/shriek half the flight. We were hoping to sleep on the flight but didn't. Everyone was ******. Now I fly with earplugs just in case (and a "kids only" section wouldn't have solved this - we were about 10 rows away from the baby)

Re: Barbara Walters just suggested on the View...
I actually think its a pretty good idea! I would stress less about flying with DD. We are flying with both kids in late summer and I am already stressing about it! They have "quiet cars" on Amtrak, so why not on planes?

Re: Barbara Walters just suggested on the View...
I have a REALLY embarassing story...so I am flying alone to FL...I am walking to my seat and see a young mom with a small infant & get excited bc I love babies, I sit in my seat next to her...I start talking to her, I hold the baby when she goes to the bathroom, play with baby etc.
I look at my ticket for some reason when we land....i am in the row behind this woman
SO this lady either bought two seats and said nothing....or WOULD have had a nice empty seat next to her FREE but my dumb *** sat there bc I was excited for the baby

(or... the person who was supposed to sit next to her saw you sitting there and took your seat and didn't say anything because they were happy to give up the seat next to the baby?)
