I am on the LIE everyday and I cannot tell you how many people get on the HOV by themselves. It drives me

I have NEVER used the HOV lane unless I had 2 people in the car or its on the off times

When we lived on LI I used to take the LIE home from work... it was SO tempting to get into that HOV lane when the traffic was bad, but I never did.
When I saw that I always wished there was a cop right there to get them.

I only use it when it is "non-HOV" times or if I have passengers. I actually got pulled over once on the LIE. My passenger was sleeping so he had his seat back. The cop was along side me and thought I was alone. After pulling me over and seeing my passenger, he said, next time this happens, just hold up the hand of my passenger so the officer knows there is someone else in the car  He was really apologetic about pulling me over too

I use it as a passing lane...sometimes. The Confederates love the left lane whether they are going 80 or 30 mph.

Absolutely not. I do carpool in the morning and we do take it though. Ticks me off royally when someone scoots in and then scoots back out when they see a cop.

Never, ever. But I very rarely drive on the LIE alone. DH and I commute together and use the HOV lane. But on those rare occasions of rush hour driving alone, DH will definitely abuse the HOV lane.

This happened to my BIL but he had his baby son in the back...he had to hold up his hand -- it was raining and he had to get out, get into the back seat and hold up the kid's hand. The cop wouldn't get out of the car and told him to do this over his loud speaker

never during hours--- i use it all the time when it's not in effect... when I'm actually on the LIE.
Yesterday Dh and I were driving (not in the HOV lane) and the HOV lane wasn't in effect due to the time of day--- there was some construction and we were slowed down for about 3 mins... in that time I watched several people cut over the HOV lane- and finally the last one I saw - as soon as he did it- he realized there was a cop behind him... he got immediately pulled over. I was actually happy to see it--- why should he be able to bypass traffic when the rest of us have to sit in it- and it was so stupid- it cleared up immediately after the construction.

No! but I do drive in the HOV lane with my 2 girls (3years and 8months) in the morning and it is hard to see them in the back. I think other drivers are more upset about it then a cop would be by the looks I get while driving! I have been pulled over a few times and the cop just apologizes and moves on.

For two reasons.
1) I'm rarely on the LIE
2) I think it's the most retarded ticket to get and therefore would not want to take the chance
