Belly sleeping at 6.5 months?
Ok - I need some help here...
I don't know if he's learining to play me or if he's truly uncomfortable....
James had been STTN for a while now. The past 4 nights, he's gotten up at EXACTLY 1:45 and will NOT settle back down for anything. If I pick him up out of the PNP, he'll immediately fall asleep - put him down on his back, he'll scream. He's usually a side or a back sleeper. He's not rolling over on his own yet. Last night, I got so frustrated that I just laid in bed and laid him on top of me so we were belly-to-belly. He slept soundly for 3.5 hours. Obviously, I don't want this to become a habit.
Should I try sleeping him on his belly tonight in his PNP?
He has been extremely constipated lately so I don't know if it's his belly - or the fact that he's in a PNP and not his crib - we're still not back in our house.
Thoughts or advice?

Re: Belly sleeping at 6.5 months?
Hey V - if he has good control of his head and can lift it up from side to side then I think you're ok. Mason has been a belly sleeper since he can roll over at 4 months old. It's the only way he can STTN.
It may also be a mix of other things... the constipation, growth spurt, teething, etc.
I used to lay Mas on his back and he'd roll over, but now that he's up and all over the place I lay him on me for a bit after his bottle so when he starts falling asleep I put him right on his belly.

Thanks babe!
I just do NOT want him to get used to the "falling asleep on Mommy" thing (as much as I secretely LOVE having him sleep on me )
He goes for a good stretch of sleeping between 6:45-1:45 and then he starts to really fuss and won't settle.

I agree...
Nolan had/has his nights and moments too. And in the end, I just gave in because it was a time that he needed me for whatever reason. I'd get myself to bed super early and getting up with him those few nights were not a problem and in time we'd get back to our normal routine. Don't worry about setting a habit... my mom tells me... do it while you can. You're going to wish you had these moments back to have a sleeping baby on your belly.

Thanks D! I'm hoping it's just a temporary thing because we're still displaced and maybe it's just that he misses his crib? The PNP "mattress" can't be nice to sleep on for 2 weeks straight
I love love love when he sleeps on me, though
He does seem to go through spurts where he's waking more than he should and he usually puts himself back on track after a while... Im hoping that this will be the case with this time as well!

I would try it (but I have let Ann sleep on her belly since the beginning so I am comfortable with it) but because he easily falls back to sleep on his belly on YOUR belly doesn't mean on his belly in the PNP or crib will necessarily make a difference.
When Ann gets up at night and I pick her up, she's out in a few minutes ON me but I can put her back down in the crib on her belly and she's right back up. Then I can give up and bring her to bed with me and again, out like a light ON me.

This is what's been happening and I can see it becoming a slippery slope

Re: Belly sleeping at 6.5 months?
Santino has slept on his belly for the past two nights...he does go there on his own (I always place him on his back) but I would say if his neck/head control is good he should be fine at 6.5 months

Re: Belly sleeping at 6.5 months?
do you think he's just out of sorts since he's not in his own crib? in a "strange"place? I wouldn't worry to much

I'd let him sleep on his belly especially if he has good head/neck control

Re: Belly sleeping at 6.5 months?
those PNP mattresses are not very comfy. They are lumpy and hard. DS hates sleeping in his. I'm sure that he will go back to sleeping well once he's back in his crib

Re: Belly sleeping at 6.5 months?
This sounds like my DS about 3 weeks ago. He always had STTN and then he was waking up screaming until I picked him up. As soon as I put him down again he screamed. He ended up having an ear infection and it was hurting him to lay flat.

DS has been sleeping on his belly since he started rolling around 3 or 4 months.
