BF Moms - What foods should I avoid eating?
My DS is a little over a week old and last night he was clearly having mega gas. I tried Mylicon and it helped a bit, but I really feel like it could be something that I ate that caused it. What foods do you usually avoid that would cause your DC to be very gassy?

I avoided a lot of veggies, unfortunately most of them were gassy. I stuck with corn, peas and carrots. I also stayed away from foods that were too spicy, garlic and onions.
Hope that helps a little.

Re: BF Moms - What foods should I avoid eating?
There could be a lot of things that cause it. In he most extreme cases it could be sign of milk allergy, and you might have to avoid dairy.
Its something to bring up with your ped, and maybe check a poopy diaper for any signs of anything serious. It will save you from a lot of headache in the next months when the baby wakes up and really starts to complain.
eta:
When I was BF, DS was very gassy, we checked poop diapers and nothing, I changed my diet it didn't help. My ped chalked it up to baby is eating his weight in food "wouldn't it make you gassy?"
I later realized that we were latching wrong the entire time. And that may contribute to gas. I bottle fed BM and that gave us less gas. It was a confusing and complicated. I ultimately gave up BF, DS was perfect on a broken down formula and bottle, never was as gassy as on BM. I have no idea why anymore, I just gave up after 2 months of trial and error.
I wish I didn't, so I just wanted to add, as a last resort see a lactation consultant to make sure your latching correctly, that babies mouth is completely around the nipple, that its far back enough, etc. etc.

for me it was trial and error - i would notice what i was eating and how it affected her.
So far, I have to avoid garlic and chocolate b/c they make her poop like crazy! I still eat them, but less and I try to eat them right after pumping.

I had to cut dairy out of my diet. It takes about a week for it to clear from your system to see a difference. I also think garlic bothers her sometimes.

I just discovered that my DD (who is a few days older than your DS) isn't a fan of chili - she had gas the entire day after I had it for dinner. Apparently beans and spices and newborns don't agree!

I never noticed that DS was affected by anything I ate, to be honest. He was pretty regular, but maybe I was just clueless...!?!?

Re: BF Moms - What foods should I avoid eating?
Thanks for all the responses!! I've been trying to eat so well.. prob better than I did while pregnant and his belly really hurt yesterday. He's much better today though, so I feel better! I guess I just have to pay attention to the things I eat and his reaction to it.

It is definitely trial and error. For me it was dairy, and once I made the mistake of eating a broccoli and cheddar soup from Panera before BF.....omg his farts that day...

Besides DS's allergies (dairy, soy, egg, almonds), I haven't eliminated anything from my diet for gas. I was told by my ped and lactation consultant not to eliminate any foods unless it was from an allergy. My DS also had horrible gas from 1 week old and it was from his food allergies (we didn't know until he was 6 weeks).
