BF working moms question

How many times a day do you pump at work and how many ounces are you bringing home? I pumped this morning before DS woke up and stopped at 10oz (I didn't want to be tapped out when he woke up). Now I've pumped 2x at work so far (it's my first day in the office) and have 12oz - so I'm averaging 6oz and plan to pump again once more before I head home. Then I hope to feed Ryan once I get home - at least once or twice tonight.

Re: BF working moms question

I pump twice and I get about 12 ounces total. When I went back to work about 2 months ago, I used to get about 16 ounces, so my milk production has gone down.

And how much does DC eat?

My ped told me to start Ryan with 5oz pumped bottles which doesn't seem like a lot as he took that much at one point when he was a newborn.

I pumped 3x and got anywhere from 15-20 oz.

DS had about 12 oz while at DC. His bottles were 3 oz. The rule of thumb for EMB is approx. 1 oz per hour. The average BF babies consumes about 25 oz per day.

Re: BF working moms question

i dont work but pump 3 x a day. i nurse my son at night for about 5 minutes so he still stimulates teh production.

in teh morning i pump 22-24 oz

afternoon 12-16oz

night 20-24 oz

ive over produced from the beginning and even if i cut my pumping to 2 x i get 30 the first pump and 24 the second pump.

i wouldnt stop at 12 oz in the morning if you still have more milk to pump. it will help to increase your supply and hopefully you will produce more over time. your body will know to make more milk.

My Dr. told me the same thing 5-6 ounces. i thought it wasn't enough b/c all my friends who fed their kids formula were giving them 8 ounces! But my dr. was right - daycare said it was perfect amount and he is one week shy of being 5 months and he still takes 5-6 ounces.
