BFing moms - do you wake your NB to nurse?
DD wakes about every 3hrs during the day and about every 3-4hrs during the night to eat. From what I am reading online, is this not often enough. If she sleep longer than 3hs during the day, should I wake her to feed? I do not want to wake her during the night, but during the day, should I feed more often?

Re: BFing moms - do you wake your NB to nurse?
I wake the baby up during the day to eat. I feed him about every 2 hours. I sometimes go 3 hours if he is sleeping. I don't wake him during the night. He has been sleeping 4hours straight in the beginning and then waking up every 2-3 hours after that to eat. I know they say not to wake a sleeping baby, but most of the info I have read about BF has said to wake a baby during the day and to not let them go more then 3 hours without eating.

This is what I felt after I started reading. I felt fine about it until I started reading. Maybe I should just stick to my gut and let DD feed when she wants to. She seems satisfied, so I guess I should just assume she is.

Re: BFing moms - do you wake your NB to nurse?
I woke her up once, and she was SO beside herself from being woken up that she just cried and cried. Needless to say, I never did that again.
My DD was sleeping in 6 hour stretches her first week home. I worried about her not gaining enough weight, but she did just fine. Let sleeping babies lie

NEVER wake a sleeping baby. DD is almost 16 months, still nurses and I have never woken her up to eat - EVER.

Re: BFing moms - do you wake your NB to nurse?
Depends. In the first few months your supply might require you to wake up the baby or at least pump.

When my DS was in the NICU they woke him every 3 hours---once he was home we got the okay to let him wake up on his own to eat.

Re: BFing moms - do you wake your NB to nurse?
I don't wake him. However, if he is swaddled tightly and it's been over 3 hours, I usually let him loose. He almost always starts squirming and wakes up within half an hour or so.

Re: BFing moms - do you wake your NB to nurse?
OK - this makes me feel better about letting her eat when she wants. I tried waking her before and - no shot she was getting up. So I waited and she woke up on her own to eat at her usual 3 hr interval. I guess I will just let her determine her own feeding schedule.

I actually did in the very beginning, the first few nights. Then colic set in, so she took care of the waking on her own

Re: BFing moms - do you wake your NB to nurse?
Not typically, but if they happened to be sleeping for a pretty long time and things were getting painful for me...yeah, sure...I would start with some loud coughing nearby and if that didn't work, then I'd try and get them up.
