BFing- thinking ahead- BTDT moms, need your help
I return to work in September. I am BFing DS who also receives one bottle of formula a day.
I thought i would wean him this summer so he was off the breast by Sept but now i have decided i want to BF for a full year (he will be one in Nov). So..... will it be possible to BF him in just the mornings and evenings? Will i be able to keep my supply up this way w/o pumping during the day? Im a teacher and there is NO way i can pump during day.
Anyone do this? Any thoughts? THANKS

can I ask why you can't pump during the day?
i work in a school also and have found the time to pump 3x/day... and my friend (the one who had twins) is a teacher and pumps 2x/day.

Re: BFing- thinking ahead- BTDT moms, need your help
I have been just BFing AM and PM for about 2 months now (although it's becoming just PM now).
I think the key was to stop pumping gradually. I was pumping 3x/day at work until 5 months, then went to 2x/day for a few weeks and then once/day for a few weeks and then stopped completely around 6.5 months.
If you can't pump at work I would start maybe in August with pumping 2x/day (then feeding him the pumped bottles or formula - maybe try no BFing during "work hours" although I know that will be hard) and then after a few weeks go to 1x/day and then once you return to work you should be good with stopping and being able to BF in the AM and PM.
I never got engorged doing it this way and seem to still have enough milk for her to STTN and be good for 3ish hours after the morning feeding.
Good luck!

It really depends on your supply. I had to pump at work every three hours. My milk production was low and would dry up if I didn't keep to the schedule. It was so hard - I had to hide out in a storage closet to do it. But, my coworker always had a huge supply and was able to pump only at lunchtime.

Ugh WAY TOO stressful. I share classrooms and my day is JAMMED PACKED. I need to use my prep and lunch to actually do work bc i dont want to stay any later in the day than i need to.

Will he have formula when you're working? It's definitely possible to just BF in the morning and at night. If you're not used to going longer stretches between feedings, you might be engorged for a few days, but your supply should adjust pretty quickly.
I EBF for a year, but then went down to nursing in the morning (and at night for the first week or two). My supply was pretty low at that point, but I continued nursing in the morning until DS was 15 months old.
