Birthday evite with amazon wish list embedded in invitation
I have never seen a wish list in the body of the invitation. I must admit that it makes me want to decline the invitation!
The description has very few details but the wish list takes ups half the text body.
The invite also happens to be for someone we don't know very well. We don't get invited to many bday parties via evite.

I think it's obnoxious. I only give wish list information on an individual basis if someone asks me for ideas of what to get. I once got a 1st birthday invitation with a url for the wish list, the child's clothing and shoe sizes and a request to give gift receipts!

Re: Birthday evite with amazon wish list embedded in invitation
We get a lot of evites for parties. Haven't had a wish list embedded... but IMHO, it makes it easier (particularly if there are many inexpensive options).

I kind of like it - you are planning to buy a gift for this person if you go anyway, right? So why not buy what they want/need? And it is Amazon, too? Even better - I have Prime and I'm a last minute shopper, so I love being able to buy something off Amazon and getting it 2 days later.
I wish more people would do this, actually.

My first reaction is that including the link is presumptuous and I probably would roll my eyes at it but in the end it really would make life a lot easier. I actually had someone ask me if I planned on putting a holiday wishlist together for DS for Christmas and honestly I had never thought about it but it would probably make things easier for my siblings, especially my younger brothers, who don't have kids and have no idea what to buy for an almost 1yo baby.

I agree that family lists are wonderful. It makes like easier for grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.
I just don't think it should be included to new friends in an area you just moved to. This family just moved here a few months ago so most of the people invited to the bday party are new local friends/acquaintances.

But I assume you'll bring a gift anyway, right? What's the big deal if they give you a little guidance?

WHAT!!! Id give the opposite..wrong size, no receipt.
I think its tacky. A shower is pretty much the only time it's acceptable.
I keep saying I'll make a wish list for family IF they ask but I still haven't.

I'm the same way. I only make one because my SIL does for her kids, so my ILs expect it. For DD's first birthday, I only told people about the wish list if someone specifically asked me if we had one or for suggestions of what to purchase.
Keep in mind that my mom didn't even put registry information in my bridal shower invitations. She thinks that it's rude (I don't), and she waited for people to ask if/where I was registered.
I think putting a wish list in a first birthday invitation is basically like telling people that you expect them to choose something from that list, and can make people feel obligated to do so.

If I am inviting to a party where I KNOW if I go I will purchasing a gift and where 99999.999999% of people will buy a gift for a child's birthday if they attend the party, I don't get why this tiwsts people so much.
hey, here is my list in case you are coming and would like to buy a gift that is in line with something my child needs/wants, here are sizes so there is no confusion and it makes you life easier.
O M G
the horror!!! totally get your vengeance and show them a thing or two about tact.

Same here, especially since after receiving the invite and after I've replied that we'll be attending, my first question is "does he/she have a wish list anywhere?"

Re: Birthday evite with amazon wish list embedded in invitation
I think its terrible. And it also sets a bad example for your children - people wonder why more and more people have entitled attitudes.
Its beyond tacky to presume that people will be bringing gifts. Sure for a child's bday party most people will - but to force it on them is so classless. I hate the fact that these kids will be raised to expect gifts and be told that its pretty much ok to demand that they be given exactly what they want.
Its one thing if someone asks for suggestions, but to put it on the invitation is awful. Its presumptuous and greedy.

Seriously? I mean seriously?????? Are we really going to pretend here like anyone in the free world is NOT going to bring a gift to a child's party?!?!?! To any party for that matter. I truly do not understand getting bent about this. Nobody has a gun to your head insisting that you buy from the Wish List. Good lord.
A Wish List is NOT presumptuous, it's not creating ill mannered ungrateful children. It's just giving people some idea as to what your child may like. I've been doing one for YEARS and nobody complains, they actually thank me for it. They ask me for it, EVERY birthday and Xmas. Not everyone knows what is age appropriate and people with no kids sometimes don't have a clue where to even begin. People appreciate the Wish List, it makes everyone's life easier and they are happy to give a gift the child will enjoy and get use out of.
Wouldn't you rather get someone a gift that you KNOW they will love and get use out of? Why be so angry and bitter because someone offered a little direction as to the things their kid might like? The fact is, 99.999999999% of everyone is going to text, call, and email anyway to ask what they like, want or need. A Wish List takes care of that.
I don't get the outrage. Who gives a shit, you were going to bring a gift anyway to the party so why get your panties in a knot? If it's sooooo bothersome, just buy something NOT on the Wish List. Problem solved.
ETA - When all is said and done, my DD is grateful and happy with ALL of her gifts whether they came from the Wish List or not. If someone wants to buy from the Wish List, awesome. If not, awesome. It's just there to give everyone some idea of what my kids are in to. That is all. No obligation to buy.

Re: Birthday evite with amazon wish list embedded in invitation
While I would never make a wish list or include one for my child in an invitation, I do have to admit that it does making gift buying much easier. It prevents me from spending 45 minutes walking about toys r us trying to figure out what to buy. I just wouldn't feel comfortable doing it myself though.

Re: Birthday evite with amazon wish list embedded in invitation
agreed Hofstra....
I honestly have never heard of anyone getting so worked up over something so trivial....
My DD just turned 2 and both her first AND this second birthday had a gift registry website clearly stated on the bottom of the invite-- It said: For gift Ideas DD is registered at www.myregistry.com (which is great BTW)
and guess what!?!? our guests actually got gifts from the list! So many relatives either live out of town and dont have time to "guess" what my daughter is into. AND you can order online!
Every time ive gotten an invite i find myself reaching out to the parent to find out what the kid is into - i don't want to deal with that! its on the list either purchase it or dont.
you know what rude and tacky?! showing up to a party WITHOUT a gift. if you know what to get the child then GET IT, if not ...hey thats what the registry is for...something the child actually WANTS or better yet NEEDS

agreed!
as an example: my DS's godmother got him a winter jacket set for Christmas last year. When he already had one. I basically had a jacket that was not necessary. she felt bad, i felt bad, it was not a pleasant experience. she also got him shirts in the wrong size because she figured he's two so will fit into a 2T (he was wearing a 3T at the time) fast forward to his birthday this year- i made a wish list. she got him a dinosaur set. Guess what he has been playing with every day since he got it? everyone ends up happy!
wishlists rule!

Re: Birthday evite with amazon wish list embedded in invitation
love wish lists makes life so much easier. I always ask my friend what do you want me to get your DC it would just be easier if they had a list so i can just go and choose what i want in the price range that I want to spend. I know it usually puts me in awkward position when people ask me cause i dont want to tell them anything to expensive for them
I make wish list for my DD i use it for myself and will give it to people if they ask me for it. they are just suggestions you dont have to get whats on it and most of the time i write does not have to be this exact item next to the items i add.
I honestly cant believe people get bent out of shape and do things out of spite just becaus they were told what size cltohing and shoes the child is and what toys they like. I am sure it was put there for convience and i actually appreciate it .

I think it's tacky to be spiteful when giving a gift. Not to mention, you're just throwing your own money away. But go ahead, you show them!!!..............you go and waste your hard earned money on something they won't use at all just to prove a point. Makes perfect sense.

Not a fan of lists and will never do one for my kids but if someone were to make one I would probably take a look but buy whatever I wanted in the end for the occasion.
I don't always buy off the registry for weddings and babies either though!!!!
