I think it depends what you mean by party. In my family, we all get together for people's birthdays. My mom makes a dinner of your choosing and then we have cake to celebrate. Nothing fancy, but it is nice to get together to celebrate.

I like the idea of cake and coffee so everyone can get together, but I wouldn't bring a gift unless it was a milestone.
