Blood in stool... ? UPDATED
UPDATE 8:30PM
I took DD to the dr. and he said it's probably a small tear or something, he didn't see it by checking her but it could be farther up. He also said he sees this sometimes in newborns where it happens for no reason once in a while.
He said it's most likely not a milk protein allergy since she's already 10 weeks and we would have seen it earlier. She has no other symptoms. He said if it continues to call, but she just had another poop before she went down and no blood!

I just noticed DD had some stringy blood in her poop. She is 100% acting normal otherwise but the doc wants to see her, so i'm going in at 5:45. I hope it's nothing!
DD is 10 weeks... anyone go through this at that time? Will they test her for a milk protein allergy? She is EBF.

Re: Blood in stool... ?
That is usually a sign of a milk protein allergy. I had to cut out dairy in my diet and then slowly reintroduce it. Dd is now 22 months and totally fine with all dairy.

Re: Blood in stool... ?
same thing happened to my DS at 5 weeks old. He wasn't acting strange either. Turns out it was a milk protein allergy. After cutting out all dairy, he hasn't had any blood in his stool since. it took a good ywo weeks though.
Try not to worry, from what I've read, its actually pretty common. Good luck at the dr!

Re: Blood in stool... ?
I just called because we have the same issue - nurse said it's probably from straining to poop. She said to save the diaper and if it happens again to come in for an appt

Re: Blood in stool... ?
It could be an anal fissure (sp?) from straining to poop, or it could be a milk protein allergy.
They cannot test for actual allergies until around 1 y/o. But they can test the poop for blood.
Is there also mucus in the poop? DS had this, and it was a milk protein sensitivity.

Re: Blood in stool... ?
fissure or milk protein allergy.....DS had both. The milk protein also came with extreme gasiness and foul smelling poop.

Just as an FYI-my son was tested way before 1 year with a scratch test and tested positive to things that he was reacting to.
