Boy Mommys...I have a question about "the boy part"...
I am having my c-section on Friday, and thought that I was all set, until I rec'd some new info.
The other day, the tech at Madonna told me that her baby boy got a terrible infection at his circumcision site, because the Doctor didn't give her clear instructions on how to care for it.
Anyone that I asked, said you just leave it alone until it heals.
This lady said that you are suppossed to push something up or back and clean everyday.
What did you do??? I never had one of my own, and I don't want to break Body's...
P.S. PLEASE BE AS SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE...

We just left it alone...and put gauze and vaseline over it so that it didn't stick to his diaper...I would think that you would lift and wash if they were NOT circumsized??

No, there is no extra care if they are not circumcised. Just wipe it like a finger. No retracting the foreskin is necessary.

We were told to change the gauze every diaper change and to put Neosporin on it. The doctor gave us a sheet with care instructions, and things to look out for, but we never had any problems, and it healed in about a week and a half.

Re: Boy Mommys...I have a question about "the boy part"...
I will tell you - no one was REALLY specific with me - and I don't have a penis of my own so I had no clue.
Things were fine after the circumcision. When he was a few months old I noticed that his penis was getting red - I ended up taking him to the ped - and he told me I wasn't cleaning it correctly. My ped had to kind of correct it and pull the skin back - my son screamed bloody murder!
Once that was done it is all good now. You will see - you need to pull the skin ALL the way back - not to be too graphic - but it will then look like a little head.
Hope that helps a little!

We were instructed to sort of "pop" it so that the foreskin didn't stick - I think we did it a few times a day. We also put Neosporin on it for a while - I think like a week.

every time you change him, put a massive amount of vaseline on it (if they cut him...there are several ways to circumsize). And yes, you push the remaining foreskin back a little.

Re: Boy Mommys...I have a question about "the boy part"...
We were just told to glob on the vaseline with each diaper change and to sponge bathe until it was 100% healed. I would suggest getting vaseline in a tube. We only got a couple from the hospital (individual foil-like packages). We found CVS-brand vaseline in a tube that we used once we got home.

Re: Boy Mommys...I have a question about "the boy part"...
We put globs of AD ointment and gauze on it until it healed. After it healed we push back the dkin and clean under where the skin was at every diaper change. White Lint (i guess from the diaper?) build up in there

Re: Boy Mommys...I have a question about "the boy part"...
the first day or two, i kept the gauze over the penis. then after every diaper change i would wash him and then apply lots of ointment. ds had an adhesion but by the time he was 3 it was gone. just keep it very clean and use lots of ointment on it

Re: Boy Mommys...I have a question about "the boy part"...
They told me to *ONLY* wash it with warm water until it healed totally.
We also had to glob it up with vaseline and gauze at every diaper change. It took almost 2 weeks to totally heal.

No, there is no extra care if they are not circumcised. Just wipe it like a finger. No retracting the foreskin is necessary. ITA. Actually retracting the foreskin is suspected to lead to issues with an uncircumcised penis later in life.
