Re: breast cancer: upate 7/18 again
Please take it one step at a time.
Years ago women had mastectomies for almost every stage.
These days the treatments are better and they can eradicate the disease without such drastic measures.
They are doing a genetic test to see if you are a carrier for the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes. That could help your decision about treatment.
It's a lot to take in all at once. It's been quite a week.
Please take time to treat yourself right. Do some things that you love. You are more than the cancer, you are a beautiful strong woman who will kick this is it's azz!!!
Now go on living and show that cancer who's boss.

Re: breast cancer: upate 7/18 again
What shocks me the most is that I always read that breast cancer was not painful. I will pray for you and that you have the best of the "worst". Please keep us posted.

Re: breast cancer: upate 7/18 again
I'm so sorry.
I have a lot of experience with cancer in my family. It's a totally personal decision how aggressive you want to go with this, but my advice would be to always go for second opinions. I believe my mom's outcome might have been different if she'd gone for a second opinion and had more aggressive treatment more quickly. She had ovarian cancer, which is a more bleak and more aggressive form of cancer though.
I'm glad it sounds like you found this early. Good luck, stay strong, and kick that cancer's @ss.

Re: breast cancer: upate 7/18 again
I have cancer in my family and breast cancer is a biggie. We've had reconstructive and double mastectomy in our family. A good friend of mine via work just had it and reconstructive. It was more the meds and the slow recovery that bothered her not the actual surgery. Emotionally it takes its toll though, there's no hiding that.
I hope you a speedy recovery. I personally think its very brave of you to be so agressive. Given the same choice, I'd do likewise. Flesh is flesh but my life to my child and myself is much more important.
Again, good luck and i wish a speedy and safe recovery.

Re: breast cancer: upate 7/18 again
keeping you in my prayers and sending you many hugs.
At 34 you shouldn't be going through this. Ok, at any age, you shouldn't have to go through this but for a horrible disease, at the very least, the success rate for treatment is very high.
Good luck to you.

Re: breast cancer: update 7/25 again
Oh my..... I am so sorry to hear this. My mother was diagnosed March of 2010.
The support groups are extremely helpful- and there are so many resources to help you get through the process. It's amazing the level of support my mother has received over the past year and a half.
The road ahead of you is long, but you'll start this journey a warrior and will come out a survivor. Please know that you'll be in my prayers.
