Bridal/Baby Showers-how do they work?
If someone at your office is getting married/having a baby and you're throwing a shower in the office, how does it work.
Who plans it? Their manager?
Did you have food? If so, did you order or have people make it?
As far as $ contributions, does the manager give more? Or is everyone-manager included-gives the same amount?
ETA: There are only 13 women total in the office

Well I'm a teacher so it might be different. But with us, usually the person's best friends (or closest colleagues) get together and decide on a day/date. They send out invites and on the invites ask you to check one of the two options:
____ Yes, I would like to come and I am contributing $5 / $10
____ Sorry, I can not make it but I would like to contribute $5 / $10
They send it out to everyone and only expect to hear back from the people who are coming or contributing. They don't expect no hear back from the "Not interested"s. They ask for the money by a certain date, 2 or 3 days before the party, and go out and buy decorations from Party City. 3 or 4 people will bake cakes and buy soda. One or two big things off the registry will be purchased from the combo of everyone's money. The next day, the showeree will get a list of everyone who contributed so she can write thank you's.

in our office the manager plans it and pays for a cake and the rest of the staff throws money in towards a gift- we dont set an amount- people give what they can afford
we usually get a gift card with the money

In our office someone who is close to the person organizes it. If we do food people contribute the money - otherwise a few close associates will buy a cake and decorations.
We then invite who the honoree works with and is close to and they buy the girl gifts.
We invite ladies and men
We only do baby showers at work.
