Bringing baby home....MIL..Pi$$$ed me off.

So the other night at dinner I swore that I heard my MIL say "who is buying the outfit that the baby is coming home in?" I totally ignored it because I wasn't even going to have that conversation with her. Maybe I am just mean! So today my DH says that his mother asked him who is buying the outfit for the baby to come home in. Thank GOD i was not there....

He responded how I would have hoped and said "no this is something my wife will buy and take care of". Am I wrong for being annoyed that she would even ask such a thing???? My DH said she wanted to buy it. BACK OFF LADY! This is my kid...it's her first outfit. GRRRR

Am I alone here????

Re: Bringing baby home....MIL..Pi$$$ed me off.

My mom, step-mom, father, brother, inlaws, and grandparents all asked as well. The intentions are good, but I just explained it was important to Joe and I to do it together. They all understood and back right down. I think sometimes they just get so excited they don't see how important it is to us.

Re: Bringing baby home....MIL..Pi$$$ed me off.

my mom wants to buy it, and im ok with that cause I know she has good taste and will pick something that I would have picked but if it was my MIL, i would definitely feel the same! I would just not put the baby in it.

My SIL called it for #1 noone has called it for #2 but I told her it was ok as long as I went with her to buy it & we picked it out together...funny story at carters she found the sweater & I found pants to show her & they were from the same collection, I guess we had the same taste.

I guess look at the positive that she asked & didn't just take it into her own hands & buy something w/out asking first.

I don't see why it is such a big deal, I say if someone wants to buy something for me, let them. Maybe you can go with her and pick it out together and she can pay. Do you two not get along?

I wouldn't be angry about her asking... I think she was trying to be nice. I don't think she meant any harm, and if DH said you wanted to pick it out, it sounds like the case is closed.

Re: Bringing baby home....MIL..Pi$$$ed me off.

Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is about her just asking who is buying the coming home outfit.

As a BTDT mom, DD's coming home outfit was the last thing on my mind. In fact, I didn't even know what DD was going to wear home until an hour before they discharged us.

It's not like she took it upon herself to buy the outfit on her own. Then I'd say you have every right to be annoyed, but she only asked, no harm in that.

Re: Bringing baby home....MIL..Pi$$$ed me off.

I think you're overreacting a little here. She was just asking a question.....she wasn't demanding you let her buy the outfit.
Perhaps there is a history with her being overbearing that I'm unaware of....but when my mother asked if she could buy my baby's coming home outfit, I was thrilled to let her do that.
Keep in mind that grandparents can be just as excited about the new baby as the parents are. And that's a good thing!

ITA. My mom asked if she could buy the take home outfit and I said go for it, lol...I actually told her to surprise me..but my mom and I have the same taste. I think if my MIL asked me that I would have been extremely thankful, although we don't have the same taste I still would have said sure b/c as important as an outfit is...it is clothes...I think the thought and love for the baby is more important...again maybe you have some issues between you and your MIL that we are not aware of.

I agree. I would not really be angry over it. I'm sure now that you told her you wiill purchase something yourself she will be fine with it.

I think it's nice that she even thought to ask you about it. Many MIL's would just take it into their own hands, and many wouldn't even give it a second thought.

I never understood why this was such a huge deal. We had an outfit for my son, he wound up being TINY at 5 pounds, so we had to go out at the last minute to get preemie clothes anyway. It's really just for the pictures - don't stress it too much. There is gonna be way more going on for you to stress about Chat Icon

#2 will just wear whatever I think he/shee will be comfy in.

I do think you are overreacting here. She just asked a question! I think that it was rude to ignore her, a simple "We will purchase it, thanks anyway" would have taken care of the whole situation.

I think its sweet. my mom bought us the coming home outfit.

To be honest, it's just an outfit - it's the generous gesture that is what is nice here and I think you should cut her a little slack. Chat Icon

i agree. it's not like she already went out and bought it.

i think it's easy to forget that even though this is your first baby (i've been there, believe me!) this is a big deal for everyone else in the family too Chat Icon

Unless there is background that I don't know, sorry, but I think you are overacting a bit. It was an innocent question and she didn't get something without asking and insisted on DC wearing it, I wouldn't get mad. Your DH made a point and she seemed to take it. I wouldn't waste time thinking about this and stressing!

Re: Bringing baby home....MIL..Pi$$$ed me off.

My mom bought my DD's coming home outfit. I didn't mind at all. Actually, my MIL bought my DD's Christening gown before she was even born, in Italy. She never asked either but I still didn't care. I don't know why but that stuff doesn't bother me and EVERYTHING bothers me. Chat Icon

Re: Bringing baby home....MIL..Pi$$$ed me off.

I understand where you are coming from ,my mil has bought my Chat Icon a whole wardrobe that will get her thru her first year of life,,,the other day she showed me a snowsuit and told me this is what Lara (what we are naming our little girl) should come home in from the hospital...I just stood there.i admit, first i was furious but when i got home I thought about it and was pretty grateful..she has spent alot of $$ on our baby and it is less money out of my pocket..this will be her first granddaugter so Ive decided to let her enjoy this time and i will put my lilChat Icon in the snowsuit.
