BTDT Moms - Question RE: Bottles - Dr. Brown vs. Born Free (POLL)

Because I am WAAAAY too tired and lazy to do a search...

We used Drop-Ins with Abby mainly because we did not have a dishwasher when she was born and up until we moved a month and a half ago. Now we do, so we would like to have a bit less waste, do right by the environment and save some money by using a different bottle type.

Simple question, which bottles did you prefer?

Dr. Brown's or Born Free.

Glass is not an option. I wont buy them, so please do not suggest them. Thanks.

Re: BTDT Moms - Question RE: Bottles - Dr. Brown vs. Born Free (POLL)

We use Dr. Browns- the BPA Free plastic ones- I like them, but have nothing to compare them to since it is the only bottle I have ever used.

Just get a few of the dishwasher baskets for all the parts.

Re: BTDT Moms - Question RE: Bottles - Dr. Brown vs. Born Free (POLL)

We bought a few different bottles and a few different kind of nipples. We let DS choose. He liked a certain kind, so we bought more of that. Then around 5-6 months, he changed his mind and went a different route to another bottle we already had. So then we bought more of those.

I suggest to not buy too many of anything until you know what works.

I'm no help! DS uses Playtex VentAires - so far we've had no problems!

Re: BTDT Moms - Question RE: Bottles - Dr. Brown vs. Born Free (POLL)

I like Dr. Browns so much better. That may be because DS really only liked the taller narrow bottles and we only had them in Dr. Browns. I have some of the shorter wide Born Free. He never got the hang of the nipples on them. I threw out the Dr. Browns that had the BPA and now I can't find the Dr. Browns that we used after that. I do have some Born Free that you can have to try. You can always get new parts or just sanitize them. They were hardly used but they have been sitting.

I used Dr. Browns with DD#1. This time, I bought Born Free to try with DD#2 after lots of recs from friends. At 6 weeks we're back on Dr. Browns. DD didn't like the nipple on the BF bottles and wasn't eating enough. We made the switch last week and she's a new baby!

We used and liked Dr. Browns. We have the diswasher baskets which makes them easier. I never tried Born Free since Dr. Browns worked well.

Re: BTDT Moms - Question RE: Bottles - Dr. Brown vs. Born Free (POLL)

we had the playtex drop ins and the dr. browns. I found the playtex to be a mess to prepare with those bags..just wasnt for me. and the way DS was eating, i'd be buying bags all the time.

I've used the plastic DR. browns and they've been great. I run them through the washer for the first time, but hand wash after that. Just because I dont run my dishwasher every day.

Dr Brown's bottles have 9 million pieces and I couldn't stand it.

We wound up using the drop-ins, but I wouldn't buy the Dr. Browns again for another DC cause I hated taking all the pieces apart and putting them back together.

Huge Dr Browns fan here. I used to sterilize them in the dishwasher so the parts didn't bother me.

I tried both when DS was first born, and he seemed to be a little more frustrated drinking from Born Free for some reason. I switched to Dr. Browns exclusively.

we're the exact opposite.
we used born free from the start, no leaks, no nipple issues, etc. All the parts go in the dishwasher (less parts than Dr Bs, i believe), and no complaints from DS. We never even tried anything else.

Re: BTDT Moms - Question RE: Bottles - Dr. Brown vs. Born Free (POLL)

We've actually used both. When DD started on formula we used the Dr. Brown's plastic BPA free bottles. Never had any issues with leaks, etc. But after a few months, DD for some reason wasn't taking to them so we switched to the Playtex Drop Ins (which we're still using and love). We've also used the Born Free since we got a whole bunch of free samples when we registered and DD still uses them sometimes (mostly for water now). She does well with them too and again, no issues with leaks. They both have the same amount of parts but the Born Free are definitely easier to clean so I would go with those.

I started with Dr. Brown bottles from day one and never had a problem. For the first few months I was afraid to put them in the dishwasher so I hand washed them which was a PITA. Going forward I would use them again and just put them in the dishwasher from day one.

Re: BTDT Moms - Question RE: Bottles - Dr. Brown vs. Born Free (POLL)

When DS was born, we wanted BPA free and there were far fewer options. We bought Born Free and Drop-ins. We started with the Born Free and they worked fine.

I didn't like the idea of the waste of the drop ins either, but we tried them after a little while and found that DS did much better with those - he wasn't as gassy.

Re: BTDT Moms - Question RE: Bottles - Dr. Brown vs. Born Free (POLL)

I have both and tried both and Luce did better with the Dr. Browns. less gassy.

I do like the born free bottles for formula mixing better than the Dr. Brown's pitcher though. you can see the air bubbles leaves the liquid once you shake it together with the Born Free.

we also tried the Ventaire (Playtex) and he was just too gassy.

for us, Dr. Brown's did the trick. and I don't find them to be any more difficult to clean than anything else, and I am the dishwasher Chat Icon

ETA: we've had a few leaks with the Dr. Browns, but it's been when I overfilled past the fill line and/or the nipple and the tube thingy weren't in tight enough. both human errors.

Re: BTDT Moms - Question RE: Bottles - Dr. Brown vs. Born Free (POLL)

Dr Browns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We tried the Born Free and Avent as well.

The Born Free didn't come out fast enough or something and I believe they leaked. Dr. Browns has a lot of parts but the girls just liked them better. You get used to all the parts.

ETA-We also like the vent air. Easy to travel with they don't leak all over the place.

I did Dr. Brown's for a long time before I switched to Born Free. Both work well for DD gas. Born Free was easier to clean Chat Icon
