BTDT Moms - transitioning to cow's milk
DD will be 1 on May 21st. Starting May 1st, I want to slowly start transitioning her to cow's milk.
Question: how many ounces of milk do you give througout the day? She currently takes 24 ounces of formula - does she get 24 ounces of milk?

You can keep the number of ounces that she gets the same. I do believe that there is a minimum amount of ounces that they want them to get of milk in the beginning (ask your ped bc I forget)
I did it something like this (keep in mind I had a ton of formula to still go through so I really stretched it out much longer. You can do this over a couple of days instead of weeks)
If he was getting an 8oz bottle of formula:
Week 1 -6 ounces of formula 2 ounces of milk.
Week 2: 4 ounces of formula/4ounces of milk
Week 3: 2 ounces of formula/6 ounces of milk
Week 4 - All milk.
Again, that cane be done in a much shorter timeframe but I had a lot of formula to go through still!

Re: BTDT Moms - transitioning to cow's milk
I tried cold turkey... it didn't fly.
It's recommended they get 24oz of milk, so I was planning on keeping the same amount of bottles she was getting (4, 6oz bottles), but DD had other ideas.
We started the first two weeks:
4oz formula 2oz milk
The next 1.5 weeks 3oz formula 3oz milk
the next 1.5 week 2 oz formula 4oz milk
The last week 1oz formula 5 oz milk
The last phase was actually less than a week, because we ran out of formula and I didn't want to buy anymore.
After that last bottle, DD decided she was DONE with not only bottles but also milk.
We tried going back to the mix of the two, but she wasn't having it.
So now she doesn't drink milk or formula
but I dont' think that's "typical" of most kids.

Re: BTDT Moms - transitioning to cow's milk
My ped didn't want me mixing formula and milk. He said to start with one bottle a day and change it to milk, then go 3-4 days before changing another bottle to just milk. He recommended that DS take at least 20 ounces of milk a day when he starts, and said that he should also be eating more solids.

Re: BTDT Moms - transitioning to cow's milk
so 24 ounces is good for a day?
One of the mom's at DD's daycare was told 18 ounces max for her DD (she's a little chubby though). I was trying to figure out how on Earth I was going to get DD down to 18 ounces/day.
Another question: when/how did you transition away from bottles for milk? DD takes a sippy cup for her water but I can't imagine how she's going to react to no bottles for milk. I look at her and she seems too little to take away her bottles.

Re: BTDT Moms - transitioning to cow's milk
My ped told me go cold turkey with the bottles, but I was like "no way"
I had planned on keeping the morning and evening bottle. But DD decided on her own she was done with them and kept knocking them out of our hands.
I have no advice about the bottles though, but maybe try replacing one of her bottles with a sippy instead? And then so on and so on.

Re: BTDT Moms - transitioning to cow's milk
We switched to milk cold turkey and my DD had no problem with it at all. My pediatrician just recommended I stop formula and start milk.
