Btdt, moms of 3 yo..naps & bedtime...
My dd naps awesome. If she doesn't, no biggie, BUT after a few days, she is uncontrollable!
BUT lately if she naps it takes her a while to get to sleep. We start the process at 8:20pm.
Any suggestions??????

We stopped napping for this reason. Bedtime got later and later. She adjusted to no nap and goes to bed at 7:30pm which keeps me sane

We stopped naps around that age too, when it started interfering with bed time.
You could try letting her have a short nap if you think she really still needs it-no more than an hour, see how it goes.

None of my kids napped passed the age of 2
3 yr. old DD is in bed asleep by 7:30 every night and wakes at 7am.

Re: Btdt, moms of 3 yo..naps & bedtime...
We are running into the same problem. DS can do well without a nap but he sleeps for 3 hours if he does nap and doesn't want to go to bed until 8:30pm or later. I think we are going to start getting rid of naps during the week soon
ETA: You know your child best, but I know I would not be able to let DS nap for only an hour and then wake him - he would be even crankier than if he didn't have a nap at all!

Thank you for the replies. Maybe putting her to bed for 8 and no nap will work.....thank goodness for dvr, cause she knows she goes to bed after backyardigans
If she is still cranky after no naps, push bed to 7:30

Re: Btdt, moms of 3 yo..naps & bedtime...
DD will be 4 in October, she naps from 2-3 hours pretty much every day. If we skip she gets CRAZY and is totally thrown off for the rest of the day.
I *try* to get her in around 2pm but it depends on when she woke up. If shes up early she'll go in around 1pm and there are some days (like today) where she went down at 3pm.
We *try* to have her in bed by 8:30-9ish but there are nights we're out or doing things and by the time we get home its closer to 10pm.
Is there a reason you don't want her going to bed later?

Re: Btdt, moms of 3 yo..naps & bedtime...
I have a 3 yo and a 20 mo old, so they nap together around 2pm and go to bed together around 8-9pm.
That's the only reason I still let my 3 yo nap--because his little brother still needs to!
If I ONLY had my 3 yo, I would eliminate the naps altogether and push bedtime up to 7:30.
(My primary reason for this would be for more ME/Me & DH time at the end of the day! )

Re: Btdt, moms of 3 yo..naps & bedtime...
DD is 3. When she is at daycare, if she naps for as little as a half hour, she won't go to bed until at least 9 but as late as 1030 (last night it was 945). But when she is home on weekends or Wednesdays when I am off, I try to avoid any nap at all and she will go right to sleep at 7 or 730 and sleep until 8. It's such a bad cycle because when she goes to bed late, she is tired and they can't keep her awake at daycare but it just continues the late bed time

dd naps became infrequent at around 2.5. If we let her nap, she wouldn't fall asleep until 10pm. So we stopped them and she sleeps from about 7:30-6:30a.m.

How many naps is she taking and for how long are her naps?
You can have her nap, just cut them short so it doesn't affect her bedtime routine

I was thinking that. She takes 1 nap at 1pm for about 1-1.5 hours. The only reason I don't want a later bedtime is I heard it's better for kids to be in bed by 9. But some nights she delays so much, asks to use bathroom, drink, etc it's closer the 930/10.

Same here. He was staying up later and later and I was losing my mind. No naps now and I start bedtime at 7 - he's usually done calling me in his room by 7:30 and sleeping by 8

Same situation here. DS1 would nap for 3 hours if I let him, but then he rolls around in bed forever before falling asleep and I feel bad for him. I usually try to wake him up if I feel he has slept for too long.
