X-post CG- Can I ask a question on the subject of exposed boob?
ok so, I am reading MANY women of the opinion that a woman has every right to expose their breast wherever they want in the course of feeding their hungry baby.
ok.
but some of these same posters I also see posting things about the prevelance of cleavage baring dresses/tops on the celebs these days.
if breasts are to be celebrated for what they are as a life giving form, why can they not also be "exposed" for what they are in terms a sexuality...a huge turn on?
I think, if you are for breast exposure in one area, then it would follow suit in another.
breasts feed children...but also feed the fantasies of adults. is one wrong, while the other is right?

I'll answer here.
Sometimes it's the cleavage-bared breasts that help MAKE the babies that suck on the breast that is only to be exposed in the most natural, beautiful, life-sustaining way.

Re: X-post CG- Can I ask a question on the subject of exposed boob?
I'm one of the posters who said that a woman should be able to breastfeed whenever, wherever, and you know what? I totally agree with you. By bringing up women who expose themselves in a sexual manner, I wasn't trying to say that's wrong, but exposure during breastfeeding should be ok. I was trying to make the point that it just doesn't make sense that people find it totally acceptable for a woman to show her goods on the street, or on the cover of a magazing, but not ok for the purpose of feeding her child.
I totally agree with you - I think this country is backwards, and far too conservative when it comes to sexuality. It boggles my mind that family advocacy groups will rally about too much sexuality here and there, but make no mention of the inordinate amount of violence on TV during the exact hours that children watch. I really do wish that we would follow the european model more closely, where violence is a big NO NO, but sexuality, and the natural beauty of the human body is no big deal.

Re: X-post CG- Can I ask a question on the subject of exposed boob?
I think that despite the fact that breastfeeding is a very natural and beautiful thing, that some people still cannot get over the fact that a breast is ALSO a very sexual thing to a lot of people.
When I had breasts to speak of (a long time ago), it was very hard to have a conversation with a man without him staring below my face. I assure you that I dressed conservatively not exposing myself with cleavage.
There will always be people who view cleavage and/or breasts as provocative and inviting. But there are also many who do not know the difference between a beautiful female form to simply admire or what they consider an invitation to leer and touch.
I think it is great that we live in a time when women can celebrate who they are and be open to their level of comfort. However, I think it is important to be mindful that how we present ourselves in certain situations, can encourage undesirable behaviors from other people - whether it was our intent or not. Yes, I do know that no matter how a woman dresses, that she does not ask to be victimized, but some people do.

I'd much rather my children see an exposed breast than the violence, blood, gore and general disregard for others that is shown on every tv station in the nation....

Re: X-post CG- Can I ask a question on the subject of exposed boob?
to put it simply...almost every human being has their mouth and/or hand on a female breast at some point in their life.
in Europe (and I know people bring up the european model a lot but it's relevant) it IS what is IS. it does what it does.
God willing, my children will never wield an axe or a gun...will not fight to the death or blow anyone up.
but yet...violence, something I'd never ever WANT them to encounter is almost passe in the news media...
and a breast, something I will nurture them with, and something that will undoubtly be a part of my daughters life when she develops them....or my sons life as he fantasizes about them...is still so taboo.
breast should be passe, if anything.

Although the exposure of a breast for BF does not have the same "purpose" as cleavage (a sexual way), exposing a breast is the same to me. Whether you are breastfeeding or not.
Your boob is out and everybody can see it.

There is no better feeling than being in Europe on a gorgeous beach with the 'girls' free.
So there's my opinion I guess

For ME, it's a bigger issue that when a woman is breastfeeding, she is expected to cover up, but for the sake of fashion, it is OK to show your goods. That doesn't make sense to me.

Maybe nudity is celebrated there, but breastfeeding certainly is not- esp in England (though 60% of moms BF, seeing it in public is rare), France, and rural ireland, to name a few.

interesting. my experience in other countries is different (Italy for example I have seen it more frequently)
but it almost makes sense in England...the place of the founding fathers and their forebearers.
but their acceptance of nudity as a whole was really my point, although yours is well taken.

BF is not seen in public in France. One of the lowest rate of BF in Europe.

To be honest, I really don't care wether a boob is exposed for breastfeeding purposes or any other purpose. I admire a nice pair of boobs, It makes think of what could have been if I had some.

I was shocked when i first read it- i had always just assumed that they were all much more open minded with that stuff than americans- i cross-refernced it like crazy b/c i really didnt buy it
I'm not offended by breasts at all, people could whip them out whenever they life for all i care. But, i don't agree with the examples that people use to compare all different forms of nudity and appreciation of the body, etc.. to breastfeeding. its like comparing apples and oranges. or melons, whatever.
the fact is that the same rules of etiquette dont apply to ANY AND ALL situations involving boobs. i would wear a bikini top to the beach, not to a fancy restaurant, i would show my breast if i were BFing, but not if i was just sitting on a park bench by myself, and i would go topless on a beach, but not on a city street. yeah, those examples are all over the place, but thats the point- comparing BFing to any other example of breast exposure is irrelivant, imo.

Re: X-post CG- Can I ask a question on the subject of exposed boob?
my OP was really more directed at comments about CLEAVAGE, more than total breast exposure.
I agree that there are rules of etiquette, and I think the breast feeding debate is examining those old rules, and perhaps turning them on their ear.
so my intention wasn't to compare the two necessarily (certainly not comparing breast feeding to nip slips)...but more to understand why breast feeding is ok, but a woman with a push up bra and a low cut dress is showing too much.
