BTDT Moms of Toddlers - sick and sleep
My DD is almost 17 months..she is a great nighttime sleeper...12 hours usually 6:30-6 or so..she has been sick a week. Started antibiotics two days ago for an ear infection, but she had a really bad cold and cough this past week. She has been up every 2 hours...and she only wants me...I was out last night at a work thing and my husband couldn't get her back to sleep after 55 min of her crying..nothing helped. The only that works is me rocking her. She has never been a rocking type of baby.
I know when kids are sick all rules "go out the window", but it is hard for me to imagine that she will go back to sleeping so well. I feel like she needs me to put her back to sleep everytime and this is becoming a pattern now that will be hard to break. we never even really had to do CIO with her. With the holidays coming and company sleeping over I am so worried she will wake the whole house up and I am getting no sleep.
Sorry for the long post, I am so exhausted have to go to work and don't know what to do
We give her motrin/tylenol and it helps, but she only sleeps 2 hours max at a time..
Please any advice will help

You described DS to a T when he gets sick (frequent ear infections for him).
It DOES work work itself out again! We spent all of November rocking him to sleep....some nights he wanted me....some DH.
It took a week after he was all better of some CIO but all is well again!

The only thing that worked for us was to do CIO again. Thankfully it only took 2 nights to get back to normal. I have no other advice.

Re: BTDT Moms of Toddlers - sick and sleep
My first piece of advice is not to worry about the company. If someone chooses to stay in a house where a 17 month old lives, they should be prepared for it.
I think she'll go back to normal. My DS is and always has been a good nighttime sleeper. We have had bouts of sickness or teething where he would wake up every 2-3 hours. Once the problem went away (tooth came in or illness went away) he was back to his normally sleeping self.
Sometimes it can take a couple of weeks for the cold to go away and the coughing is the worst.

Re: BTDT Moms of Toddlers - sick and sleep
DS has generally been a good nightime sleeper, though he has bouts of bad sleep when he is sick or when he hits some new developmental phase--most recently about a month ago.
When he is sick, we let the rules about sleep go out the window. They need the comforting, and once he is well, he goes back to sleep normally again.
