Re: C-section moms, lets talk!
I had an epidural bc I was in labor first, They were supposed to keep my epi line in for a couple days after my c section. It fell out early and I didn't realize, I was in the worst pain of my life! I felt pretty good in recovery groggy wise. I was shaking like crazy though, but that's a whole other story.

I never had any pain meds in my IV after the c-section was over....I only had percoset and motrin if needed.
I remember them asking me if I wanted anything and I said no.
Same here...the spinal and then nothing in recovery...
I only ever took the motrin, as I was scared to take the percoset.

Re: C-section moms, lets talk!
I had an epi as I was a failed induction. I was given dd in recovery and she never left my side. I do not think they gave me any additional meds because I had an epi, not a spinal

I was induced and had an epidural. I don't think I was given anything in recovery, but I know I was given pain medication through the IV the first night after the c-section.

Re: C-section moms, lets talk!
I had the epi and I think that was it. I was on a few medications because I was running a fever, was extremely nausous and the pain was really bad. I dont really remember much because the medicine was making me very sleepy. I even fell asleep on the table once they popped DS out.
I remember being wheeled into recovery where DH was holding DS. I had the shakes really bad and I felt like I was freezing.
That lasted for about 10 minutes. Then I was wheeled to my room and went to sleep. The next day I felt great.

Re: C-section moms, lets talk!
With both my c sections they gave me a shot of something in my hip. They only gave it to me after the spinal started wearing off. I'm not sure what it was. It didn't make me loopy or tired at all. In fact all I wanted to do was go to sleep and I couldn't. They also gave me benadryl a couple of hours after because I got itchy from the spinal. Hope that you have an easier time.

Re: C-section moms, lets talk!
HI.
I had an epidural/spinal. I never felt sick or nauseous once. I took the maximum amt of IV drugs, epidural injections via epi pump and even oral pills. I never once felt sick. I felt great to be honest, from all the meds. But I did feel very loopy.
The epidural stayed in for 48 hrs. Did not hurt coming out one bit. I was up the first night of the csection, walking to the bathroom. Next day I was up and moving around so much they practically had to ASK me to sit down and rest. I think the pain meds are vital to recovery and getting out of bed, esp after a csection.
Maybe there is something they can give you if you feel nausea?

Re: C-section moms, lets talk!
Those who had a spinal...what were you given to take away the pain while the spinal was wearing off??? Was it given through IV? Did it make you sick? What was your experience?
I had a spinal with DS #1 and was given dilaudin via a pain pump IV (I'm allergic to morphine). I was in pain but only because the nurses didn't set the pain pump correctly and I wasn't getting any of the medication. It was fixed by the anesthesiologist when he came to check on me shortly after I was tranferred to my room. Once it was working, I felt okay.
They took me off the IV drugs later that day at my request. I was on Percoset which I only took a couple of times.
You should talk to the anesthesiologist the morning of your c-section and go over your concerns with him/her. In my experience, they are the one's who determine the best course of action for you. It could very well be you are allergic to what they gave you and that is why you got so sick.

I had a spinal and morphine (which made me soooo sick) I don't even remember the first day my son was born, I see pics. If we have #2 ~ I will not have the morphine since it made me so sick!
Ditto! I was extremely ill from the morphine. Emerson was born at 5:42am and I did not see or hold her until about 6:00 that night. I was flat on my back completely nauseous.....I couldn't move I was so sick. Once the morphine wore off I felt a lot better.

Re: C-section moms, lets talk!
I have no idea! I'm sure I was given something. Not sure if it was the spinal itself, but I was def itchy. The IV was removed less than 24 hours later, and I was given perc and motrin as needed. I didn't even think I was given something, but they must have, right?
Whatever I was on did NOT make me nauseous. Was in recovery room for one hour, and nothing but the itching followed after that...although they insisted I keep something close by to throw up in just in case.

Re: C-section moms, lets talk!
Wow, it seems everyone had a bad reaction to whatever you were given I had a spinal with DS2. I was given 2 doses of *something* (not sure if it was demerol, percoset, etc) via my IV in recovery. I was assured whatever they gave me would not pass onto the baby as I wanted to nurse (I couldn't nurse him right away as he was in the NICU). Once I got to my room, the IV was removed, they gave me a shot in my hip of a pain med. None of what they gave me made me sick at all. I also did not get itchy after the spinal but I was very itchy after the epi that I had with DS1.

Re: C-section moms, lets talk!
They kept my epi line in and I got something through there. It made me really itchy, i had to keep taking benadryl. The only time I felt nauseous was when they were putting me back together, and then I get zofran and was fine. I also had a pump that had something like a hose right by the incision that continuously pumped in lidocaine. I had that in until the meds ran out. The morning after my surgery I had the epi line, IV, and foley taken out. I was on perkiset and motrin after that.
ETA: I was asked after the babies were out if I wanted something to "take the edge off." I didn't really feel much so I said no. I also got a shot of something while I was in recovery, but I don't remember what it was. It was to help with the contractions I was still having b/c I got pitocin after the surgery to help my uterus to go down.

Re: C-section moms, lets talk!
As far as I know, the only thing put into my IV bag was an antibiotic and pitocin (which we were told about at Lamaze to help the uterus shrink). I took Motrin not too long after being brought into recovery... and I had a spinal.

Re: C-section moms, lets talk!
I was in mild labor for 23 hours before they did my c-section. I made it clear to my docs and to the nurses that I did NOT want Demerol. As a pharmacist, I just feel like there are better drugs, with less side effects. They gave me Stadol while in L&D. Once they decided on the c-section, I got an epidural. The epidural had fentanyl and bupivicaine in it. It was wonderful! I kept it in for 2 days. After that, I got Toradol and Percocet. When discharged, I had a script for Percocet and also took Motrin.
Please don't tell them that you are allergic to something you don't want to get -- it can cause problems if they want to give you something related. If you don't want Demerol, or don't want Morphine, just be emphatic about it when your doctor and nurse is talking to you, so that when they go to write the orders for meds, they will write for something different.
