cabinet construction question

Home Depot said that if you can't afford to do solid wood cabinets throughout that you should go for the plywood construction inside and the veneer doors outside. Lowe's said the complete opposite. Lowe's said veneers fade at different rates and look discolored, which we could see on the display. HD said if a drawer that's not plywood gets wet, the cabinets get destroyed.

We can't spend a fortune on this kitchen so it's going to be one or the other. Which should we go for? My feeling is Lowe's because how often are my drawers or cabeints going to get drenched where water would seep in? You see the cabinet doors everyday. Ahh, such dilemmas.

Re: cabinet construction question

Did you try looking at ikea too they supposedly have great cabinets better than the HD & Lowe's ones and you might be able to get better cabinets for your money. Good luck

If you don't mind ready to assemble cabinets, Weismans in West Babylon on Sunrise Highway service road had a great selection with really good prices.

This is the route we're going. They have software where you can design your whole kitchen. IMO, the quality of the IKEA cabinets is better than the ones at HD... never saw the RTA ones at Lowes though.
