If it would fly in NY ??? Ummm yes it would. We already have vaccine mandates. It should be no surprise if it passes here.

The flu shot was never mandated for school in NY.
And the flu is just if not more dangerous to kids than Covid.
So makes you wonder why....

They are trying to pass the flu shot but it hasn’t. But for this one since it’s mandated already in other scenarios I won’t really wonder why this one will be mandated.

I see both sides to mandates but as I always say it should be up to the parent because if I vaccinating my kids then why do I need to worry about unvaccinated kids??!!

(But at the same time there are kids that legitimately can’t get it for medical reasons so what about those kids??? Which is one of the reasons why I see both sides of the argument)

So that argument (kids who can't be vaccinated due to medical issues) would hold water IF this vaccine prevented transmission
But it doesn't.
So the whole room can be vaccinated and that one kid who can't be can still catch it.
So that argument is out the window with this particular vaccine.
It does hold water for other vaccines though

Fair enough and I meant my statement to be more general mandates on all vaccines not just this one.

But it is a good point which maybe is why the flu one hasn’t been mandated yet??!

Well considering certain vaccines like the MMR shed, kids with medical exemptions can still get a virus from those kids that had just been vaccinated and are shedding. So technically that argument doesn’t hold water with those type of vaccines either. But if kids with medical exemptions were a true concern for schools, then kids that had just been vaccinated (with live viruses) should stay home for a few days to make sure they don’t infect kids with medical exemptions but we all know schools don’t do that. Interestingly enough up to 2019, close to 27,000 unvaccinated kids went to schools with their vaccinated peers and outbreaks were never really a problem. Even with the minuscule possibility that there could have been a spread, all unvaccinated kids were supposed to stay home til the problem was resolved even if the unvaccinated children were not sick.

Regarding to the flu vaccine mandates (along with the HPV-there were bills for both vaccines at the same time), it didn’t pass as law because of covid and voting couldn’t resume. But have no doubt those bills will be reintroduced again soon enough and in a state like NY, they will certainly pass if there’s no push back from the people.

I feel like they will pass even WITH push back.
Do they really care what we, the people, think?

Our best defense weapon is our vote. We have to learn to weed out the bad apples from the good ones. We need to be able to differentiate between legislators that love mandates and legislators that give personal/parental choice a priority. If the a$$hole is already in a position of power (he/she has a say on lawmaking), then reaching out to them constantly would be the next thing to do, gather parents to see them in person, u might get the runaround but being persistent is key, protest outside their offices might be necessary too, in Albany, in DC. They need to be made aware that there is a lot of pushback, if they don’t hear from the people, it’ll be much easier for them to pass these stupid bills. If a bill is on the table, go to them, most likely there will be protests gathered already, join them, there’s still a chance up til the governor signs the bill. NJ is perfect example of that. Soon after we lost our religious exemption, legislators in NJ tried to pass the same bill but thousands of people showed up. They were everywhere, on the streets, on the hallways, making their voices heard while these legislators were discussing whether they needed to pass this bill or not. The people succeeded and NJ couldn’t eliminate their religious exemptions. All because of the people. If they didn’t cause enough uproar, they’d have without a doubt passed that bill just like NY. That’s why I don’t doubt the people still has a say and we can all make a difference but numbers are important, awareness is essential, and all this division is not helping the cause. Provaxxers that are against mandates need to make themselves heard. Fortunately there are a lot of them but if they’re still in the closet and feel afraid of being judged or labeled, they won’t really help. My hope is that more people will unite under the same cause, forget about labels and differences, but remember that regardless of what our personal beliefs are (believes in vaccines or don’t) we can pretty much all agree that mandates is the ultimate outreach of the government on a decision that should only pertain to parents and no one else.

Not sure if it was on this thread but someone asked who is paying for all these vaccines...

This was one the form when I scheduled my booster.

Upload or take a picture of the front and back sides of your card. A clear image will help us properly bill the government for your vaccine.

It doesn't matter what any of us think or want at the end of the day.

The new Governor seems like she's all for vaccine mandates. There could be a million rallies and letters written. I doubt it will make any difference. NY and Cali seem to adopt the same vaccine policies.

The 3 choices will be to either get the vaccine, home school or move out of state.

It does matter but it’s much, much harder in blue states although not impossible. The thing about Democrats that I don’t like is that they do love their mandates. U will not find one non-Democrat legislator in any state that sponsors a mandate bill. NY is a Democratic trifecta state so they have that as an advantage, as long as a couple or a few democrat legislators can be convinced to vote no, then we might have a shot (no pun intended lol!).

Ultimately, yes. If the bills pass the health committee, then assembly and senate floors, and then they’re signed by the governor, those will be the only 3 legal options.

Why though? Why does being a democrat mean you love mandates?
What does that have to do with the democratic platform?
I never ever understood that.

Part of it is money and ties with big pharma and part of it is control...Big Government, them having total and complete control as much possible on a whole lot of things (but this last is a whole other issue). There’s a lot of manipulation and deals going on behind doors. I’m not saying all Democrats believe in mandates but unfortunately the pressure of their party overrides what they think it’s right or fair. There were a few, not many, democrat legislators that actually agreed with us about the importance of keeping religious exemptions in 2019. Monica Martinez was one of them, Nader Sayegh was another one. Sayegh was even part of the health committee and the last vote that would have canceled the bill that proposed getting rid of the religious exemptions. He initially voted no but then he was called over and whispered something in his ear. Right after that, he changed his vote and it pretty much sealed the faith of religious exemptions. He changed his vote to yes. His brother (a doctor) was going through some legal troubles at that time so who know if this was used to pressure him into changing his vote. I truly believe Cuomo was behind this and to make things even more clear, the very next day Merck (a big Pharma company) made a “contribution” to Albany of almost $50 million. Soooo...it is evident that actions speak louder than words with these people.

This is just sad, disturbing and scary.
Of course health and the best interests of people is never at the heart of any of this nonsense.
It's so so disheartening.

Re: California to require Covid vaccine for all students

I just want to correct some mis/disinformation on this thread and on another recent thread.

I run in many Dem/progressive circles, some more moderate and many not so much.

I can tell you that vaccinating young children for Covid is NOT one of our broad policy goals. Not even a little bit. It simply doesn't come up in meaningful policy discussions or calls to action. Most people, myself included, seem to be in favor of the mandates related to adults and opposed to those for children.

Right now we are discussing protecting a women's right to bodily autonomy, stopping voter suppression and gerrymandering, holding Biden accountable for his promises, and creating policies that lift people out of poverty including and especially a living wage. We're not even talking about Covid much right now, at least not now that we got passed the lunatics at the school board meetings who protested the mask mandates.

And since someone said something about how all the people introducing bills are Dems, I have to suggest that you not open that can of worms for your own sake considering the Republican extremes consists of groups like the KKK, Proud Boys, and Nazis. So let's not judge groups by its fringe lunatics.

But, if we are in fact going to do so, cool. One group's lunatics are supporting a misguided attempt to save children's lives while the other's wants to kill minorities, so I am comfortable with where I stand.

Tell that to the Dems that are passing all these mandate bills. These bills are being set in place so when the vaccine for young children get EUA, they can quickly pass them into law. That’s a pretty big component of the Democrats that they’re not even trying to hide and that u obviously have missed.

I’m sorry to disappoint but I’ve never been a Republican. I actually used to be a Democrat til I saw all the crappy decisions that have directly affected my family and thousands of others.

I haven't missed anything. I am countering your fear mongering. There is absolutely no mass movement to require children get the Covid vaccine. It's NOT happening. This is all public information. People can see bills going through the system so hopefully people see through what you are saying.

You brought up the political portion when you said it's always Dems. I was bringing the other side to light to make a point that I am not going to repeat.

This is an actual question, I am not being snarky at all, but is it your understanding that there is no discussion at the state level to mandate the covid vaccine for children for school?

They have, here in NY and in California so if she’s so involved, I don’t know why she wouldn’t know that info.

Tell that to the Dems that are passing all these mandate bills. These bills are being set in place so when the vaccine for young children get EUA, they can quickly pass them into law. That’s a pretty big component of the Democrats that they’re not even trying to hide and that u obviously have missed.

Read again, I said Dems are introducing mandate bills, and what does Republicans have anything to do with what I said? Are u bringing it up as a dig because u think I’m a Republican??

I am curious as well as I had heard/read/etc that bills have been introduced in the Senate and Assembly already.

My contention is that there is not a widespread movement to mandate the Covid vaccine for children at this time, either in the national or state conversation. And this is born out in the data: for anyone who wants to do their research, if you go to the NYS assembly and Senate websites and put in the word "vaccine" you will not find anything about requiring the Covid vaccine for schoolchildren. I know it was reported that there is a proposed bill by Hoylman but unless I missed something it doesn't seem to have a number yet and is therefore not official.

But, you know what you will find? MULTIPLE bills to prohibit the mandate of the vaccine. Not sure how many. I stopped counting at five.

I could have missed something, but even if I did, it's clear the effort to prohibit a mandate is MUCH more prolific than the opposite.

I know a lot of local reps, I've been to Albany, etc. I am very involved and this is really just NOT the conversation right now for most of them. It's fear mongering. Period.

They have, here in NY and in California so if she’s so involved, I don’t know why she wouldn’t know that info.

In addition to my other response - AGAIN, you can introduce a bill for ANYTHING. I really wish people understood how this works.

If I had this type of conniption about discussion of ONE proposed NYS bill about everything that went against my beliefs I would be in a constant state of anxiety and get nothing done.

Good grief.

Can u stop with the fear mongering accusations? I have nothing to lose if these bills pass since my children are not in school but a whole lot of other parents do so why wouldn’t they need to become aware of what’s going on so they can prevent this from happening? If u truly don’t agree with children getting this vaccine like u said, then maybe it’d be wise for u to put ur efforts into getting a meeting with Hoylman and Dinowitz (I’m sure u know very well who they are) and any other legislator in favor so u can express to them ur disagreement with their bills and why they shouldn’t pass.

What do u propose parents concerned about bills for vaccine mandates do? Wait til they pass and then finally try to do something about it? That’s not how it works and we need to be proactive about it. Just so u know a bill can pass in less than 24 hrs just like it did for religious exemptions. In less than one day, this bill passed the health committee, both assembly and senate floors, and signed by Cuomo. So don’t try to say bills are introduced all the time but that doesn’t mean anything. This might not be ur concern but it is the concern of many other parents.

Are you kidding? If you are not aware of the multiple proposed bills you are not well informed at all.

I literally described the search function that I did. It's ALL public. Search the word "vaccine". You will see a lot of stuff and among them are the bills I described.

And good riddance to the religious vaccine exemption. If your God doesn't want you to protect your children, you need a new God. It passed in 24 hours because it's common sense.

ETA: Someone named DiPietro sponsored one. There are more but you can do the rest of your research on your own.

Yes, that’s what I thought u were gonna say. DiPietro is a Republican, not a Democrat. Do u really think a bill like that would ever pass in a trifecta Democratic state like NY? If u were so involved like u’re claiming to be, u’d know this bill would never stand a chance. It’d never have the tiniest, slightest chance. Not only because Democrats are not for personal/parental choice but also because this bill is sponsored by a Republican and we all know how these 2 parties loveee each other. Didn't read that she said DEMOCRATS were making bills, she said there WERE bills being proposed NOT to mandate vaccines, not the other way around. I didn't take she was inferring anything pertaining to party on the bills being introduced.

And what does this mean...

"No comment because I would literally be wasting my energy and time addressing this with someone like u. U don’t get it and u never will."

Do you mean like her in that she wouldn't falsely claim a religious exemption to bypass the requirement to vaccinate?

California to require Covid vaccine for all students

Can someone please tell me why people would think it would be a good idea to force children to be vaccinated when they can still spread Covid?

Science says they most likely won’t be hospitalized or die.

If the vaccine actually prevented them from spreading Covid, I would be more willing to consider it.

Every vaccine my kids get pretty much guarantees they won’t get the illness or spread it.

Why would we force this upon CHILDREN. There is no benefit to a healthy child. Who is it benefiting?
