You know your son best and know how smart he is! I'm an SLP and it could be that these scores are needed to make sure he still qualifies for speech. Have you spoken to your SLP about using symbols. Many parents are hesitant to use them b/c they think it will hold their child back from speaking, but research shows the opposite is true...it facilitates the development of spoken language.

Thank you everyone!!!!!
We have been doing sign language with him. It does seem to help, but now that he is getting older, he is not as receptive to it as he once was. It's like he knows exactly what he wants, and is too annoyed at that point to do the signing. Ugghhh. He does the more signing all the time, but is so resistant to other ones for some reason (all done, want..)
Some of the suggestions were great. I think I am going to do the picture thing to help limit his frustration a bit, so at least he can bring that over to me.
I try giving him choices, but that usually leads to him getting mad because the one he doesn't want is there, and thinks I am trying to give that to him. It drives me nuts sometimes!!
But again, thank you to everyone who responded. My little boy will get there eventually, I just have to be patient. And when he does get there, it will be that much sweeter!

It is so tough to hear your beautiful child is struggling. It is in fact one of the hardest things to hear and handle. I know because I am going through it with my daughter. Just know that the reports say all that to get your child help. It doesn't in NO WAY define your child. Those scores need to be addressed and mentioned so that your son can get the services he needs. You just keep enjoying, loving and helping your child do the best he can do. Don't worry about what the test scores say because it isn't going to make you a better mommy because you already are. This is how I had to accept my daughter's eval. Knowing that information is like someone punching you in the stomach, but don't let it bring you down. You are getting your son the help he needs, just know that will help and you will see progress real soon. Hang in there. Going through this process for me personally has been difficult, but has sooo payed off for my daughter. She has come such a long way. Your son will too. In a year from now you'll be amazed. Hang in there!!
