Yes, sadly.
DD did and it was so hard, but after a month things got better. Hang in there! I can't imagine how hard it must be with two!!

well its weird.. its not everyday.. but some days they will sleep all day.. then up at night.. then they switch.. basically they are very unpredictable.. and i feel that they will never get into a consistent routine..that is what's scaring me

Ok I don't condone waking sleeping babies.. but is there anyway to get them more active and alert during the day and have them nap every hour or two hours or so? This may help. Routine shmoutine....they are too young for a steady..sleep at this time..eat at this time routine.. John still doesn't have sheduled nap times.. he gets tired every two hours..thats when he goes down...

I really do think so De!
Not that Loey is sleeping throught he night or anything, but from what I was reading in some of the books is that you want to make sure you differentiate between day and night.
So, during the day... light & bright... even for naps. Make daytime very active. Feed, play, sleep.
At night... quiet and dark. Feed then sleep. The end. No talking, no playing, no engaging...

Re: Can newborns really have their days and nights mixed up?
Yes, absolutely! Remember when they were inside of you - it was always dark. You moved around a lot during the day, which put them to sleep, and were not active at night, which is when they were awake!
I found the best way to get them to figure it out was to let them nap in the family room during the day. All the lights were on, the TV was on, etc. At night, I always made sure everything was dim and quiet.

Yes! They will get a routine.....they just have to be taught what is daytime and what is night time

Re: Can newborns really have their days and nights mixed up?
Lily was....so at about 3 weeks old, we started to try to break her of it.... This is what we did, and it seemed to work:
Lights/tv/music on during naps during the day Lights/tv/music off at night while sleeping Sound machine/white noise machine/air conditioner on while sleeping at night Waking her every 3 hours to eat during the day (not at night) Gradually waking her about 15 minutes before she needed to eat, and trying to keep her awake for about 15 minutes when she was done eating
It took about a week before she got everything straightened out. But it definitely worked.

We did the smae with DD. I think to some extent every baby needs to be taught the difference between night and day.

DITTO..this really helped the first few weeks. i kept the blinds open all day, took him out for walks, even in the cold, and at nite shut all the lites, tv off, made it quiet. They will learn!!
