Can someone explain Magic Bands to me? (Disney)

DH and I are taking DC this winter. We're not staying at a Disney property or doing the meal plan. I just bought our tickets online and was surprised there was no mention of the Magic Bands at checkout ("friends" post the un-boxing of their Magic Bands on FB).

Do I not get them because we're staying off site? Does this mean I have to carry cash or a debit card around to pay for every little thing at DW? How can I use my Fast Pass without a Magic Bands?

Sorry, so many questions.Chat Icon

Yes, it's b/c you are off property. You could purchase magic bands if you really wanted to. Not sure of the cost.

I'm pretty sure you will need credit/debit/cash.

To use your FP, you will need to link your tickets on your My Disney Experience. Then book your FPs. You will be able to use your ticket to touch the FP points similar to the way Magic Bands work.

Hope that helps!

Even if you purchase magic bands, you will need to carry cash or a credit card. You can only link a form of payment to your magic band if you stay onsite.

This was just me. You get a Disney card. If you want you can pay and upgrade to a magic band. Difference is for every fast pass ride your bracelet is on so you don't have to search in Your bag for the card.

I liked everything to a Disney app so I could change my fast pass last minute. Everything I bought like Starbucks or dinner was on a regular credit card.

WE just went in last month and tossed around the idea of buying them - I believe it was about $12-13 per band. We were only going one day and plus, it seemed like an additional unnecessary expense. We kept the cards in one place that was easily accessible - I think DH kept them in the pocket of his cargo shorts.

I stayed offsite and purchased them to surprise my DD and also because you can link reservations, fast passes, photos etc.. to them. they were so much easier than tickets and for fast pass. We are going again next December and I plan on using them again, they can be reused for another trip down there.
