Socks & underwear = testing the waters for LIF generosity. Then based on who donated it will escalate to bigger things, etc...
This is what I believe anyway.
That is a definite possibility.

I guess it was the comment about Christmas but if they are atheist you don't celebrate...
Not necessarily. For many people, Christmas is just about a time to get off from work, buy stuff and get stuff. It has nothing at all to do with religion.
I didn't read the thread, but I wonder if someone hacked an account and was posting stuff in their name.....

He may be an atheist, but maybe he was raised as a Christian & kept the tradition going, or maybe his wife is a Christian.

I guess, but a lot of people celebrate Christmas as just a secular holiday....not that I agree with that, but it does happen. My ILs arent ANY religion, dont believe in God, dont go to Church and celebrate Christmas.
I understand that I know people like that but they don't have websites and things dedicated to the belief. to me, thats more extreme, and would make me think they don't actually celebrate christmas. I still think this family is in need but I think there might have been a tiny bit of bs to the story

the thing that struck me weird was that none of them had any winter clothes....did they just move? the previous post says he bought his house in 6/09 that means that they have been here for over a year...and had to go through a NY winter no?
its doesnt strike me as weird at all for the children as every single season, my DS is in a different size and in no way could fit into his previous seasons clothes.
yes I understand that but dont you think that buying clothes for your children takes priority.....go each week and buy one coat...Walmart had great winter coats for $14....
ITA, got one last night for my salvation army angel for $8. I would also like to just point out that the sizes for the coats were a ladies s/m for the kids so it seems to me that if you are that size, you could prob use your coats from last year. I hate to get into it and to speculate b/c you never truly know what is going on but one thing I did pick up on though... didn't need food help, seems to me that if you need all those things you would need food too. Also, if I couldn't get my kids a $5 coat from the salvation army I sure as heck would not have internet. JMO

Do you think they were embarrassed after posting?
I only saw a bit of the other post(s). I was thinking along these lines, especially after being "called out" by TPTB. And I know plenty of athesists that celebrate x-mas. It is a VERy secular holiday these days. I'd hate to think a family in need was denied b/c of the way they decided to reach out. I mean, they guy was asking how to get hooked up to a charity, not to be adopted by LIF. A generous few posters just took that upon themselves, and I applaud them!

Re: Can someone explain to me
Do people think Network Administrators are rich? My first job as a network admin, I made $55,000. I don't know the deal here but there may be some confusion about IT salaries. It's not a given that we're all rich, especially if it's the only income and there are 9 mouths to feed.
Just wanted to say that, I don't know what else is happening.

Re: Can someone explain to me
I think a new poster comes off as pure solicitation (which is against the rules of the site, no?).
Also if you had SEVEN kids ranging in ages, how could none of them have a winter coat? Did they donate all of the kids clothes from last season? They believe in hand me downs if they're accepting ours, so why can't the younger kid take last year's jacket from the older kid?
The whole thing came off as fishy to me. I don't mind donating to other active posters in their time of need but have a hard time with the "i've fallen on hard times...and want advice as to where to go." from someone who has donated to charities. Their website doesn't give information on how to ask for donations?? call them & ask....

Also very true - he came on here asking for nothing from anyone, that was on us.

Not so. I am sure there are plenty of people that would make putting food on their children's table a priority over other things. He also said he didn't want to take away from those more in need. Who knows, maybe when times were better they stocked up at Costco or something?

Understandable but if you were in such a bad situation, I would think that food donations would help. Then if you have help w/food, you could invest the $ you would have spent on that on clothes.
I dunno, it's just sad that you never really know who is in need. I have heard stories of people dressing up like homeless ppl and going to the subways to collect $ even though they dont need it. Not saying that this is the same at all. I just wish the world were a different place

All 9 (2 adults 7 children) needed new winter coats at the same time. He made donations of coats in the past but did not know where to turn to when he needed in return.
It just doesn't add up.

even if he makes 100k he has a house and a family of 9. he said he had a lot of things break in his home recently, I could see how that would effect him being able to buy items like clothing. he also indicated he was several months behind on his mortgage but so far they are getting by on food, for now.

Didn't he say in a few posts that they all didn't need coats?? I thought he said only him, the wife and two kids?

not to defend but I have to. we don't know if they have/had any medical condtions that cause weight gain
they also could have been living a great life a few months ago and then all this bad stuff happened. Just because they are a bigger size doesn't mean they eat well anymore

2x isn't that big. Maybe the guy is tall? My dad wears 2XLT- he's 6'4 and is average weight.
