All 9 (2 adults 7 children) needed new winter coats at the same time. He made donations of coats in the past but did not know where to turn to when he needed in return.
It just doesn't add up.
Didn't he say in a few posts that they all didn't need coats?? I thought he said only him, the wife and two kids?
he did.

He was asking for size 2X I don't think lack of food was a problem.
I hope they arent really a needy family. If they are and lurking, this makes me sad for them. Kick them while they are down.

didn't need food help, seems to me that if you need all those things you would need food too.
Not so. I am sure there are plenty of people that would make putting food on their children's table a priority over other things. He also said he didn't want to take away from those more in need. Who knows, maybe when times were better they stocked up at Costco or something?
Understandable but if you were in such a bad situation, I would think that food donations would help. Then if you have help w/food, you could invest the $ you would have spent on that on clothes.
He was asking for size 2X I don't think lack of food was a problem.
not to defend but I have to. we don't know if they have/had any medical condtions that cause weight gain
they also could have been living a great life a few months ago and then all this bad stuff happened. Just because they are a bigger size doesn't mean they eat well anymore
Sorry I shouldn't have said that. I have diarrhea of the mouth but in this case diarrhea of the fingers. I meant it as a joke.
It was very nice of you to take the lead and try to help this family. I am disgusted if it was in fact someone trying to take advantage of kind strangers.

Re: Can someone explain to me
The other reason I think its legit is bc when the DH originally responded to my offer for a coat, I told him I would send it, and he replied, with "are you sure you want to?"
Then after this all went down the wife FMd me, and gave me her phone # to call, said she would never scam people, she really needed these items. If you were really scamming people and they were on to you, and called your bluff, would you continue to try to prove your innocence, give out all your personal info, or would you just walk away and try someplace else?
If I were a scammer, and people jumped on me, called me out as such, I probably try some place where it was an easier score and I certainly wouldnt go to the trouble of trying to prove myself right for a pair of socks and a few coats.

That was weird.
The sock thing was odd. They wanted socks with room for 7 toes and Alf on them but Alf from the first season not the last season and they had to be 800 thread count.
HAAA WHAT? I was following but I missed THAT PART

It didn't say that exactly it was something like socks for my daughter. But she is very picky and only likes socks that come up to her ankle with polka dots or snowflakes but no hearts. My son needs underwear but don't get him regular underwear get him boxer briefs that are green with a camo design.
It just seemed very weird to ask for stuff then be so specific about colors. I would think if you needed something so basic like a $5 pack of underwear you would be happy to take anything.

Alf from the 1st season!! 7 toes!
That's the post that really made me think it was fishy. Specific socks and specific underwear? really? When you donate to someone who really needs these items, they are grateful to accept ANYTHING offered to them.

Re: Can someone explain to me
I'm lost and didn't read through the whole thread. I just donated two giant bags of used goods to the VVA. They're an excellent organization and one of the few that will take almost anything--great for parents with lots of outgrown toys.
Why is it puzzling to ask for used stuff?
(Sorry if I missed something else and am jumping in clueless.)

They take almost anything because they turn around and sell the stuff to thrift stores, then use the money to support their programs. So the problem that the poster being discussed was having trying to get coats from agencies is legit. The agencies that collect all this stuff don't typically keep it to give to needy people. Some do, but most don't.

Re: Can someone explain to me
Also, it should be noted, that when they FMd me to accept the offer of DS old coat bc it would fit their DS bc it was his size....when Heather later spoke to them and posted what they could use....the coat was no longer on the list of things they needed for that little boy.
I so hope their arent children going cold bc people (society in general) has become so jaded that we automatically assume the worst in people when they ask for help.
I still have their address if anyone wants to send anything. Im still going to send some used stuff I have here. If they are scammers, like I said, it didnt cost me anything and if not, and they were legit, than a little boy isnt going to be cold this winter.

Re: Can someone explain to me
What's puzzling to me is most everyone's posts on here. I think the posts are rude, nasty, and really mean. How sad that people are like this. Everyone is reading way too deeply into this. This is a family in need. They didn't ask for help. They asked for advice if anyone knew of a place that offers help to those in need. Someone on here, asked the wife what she needs. She was honest. Now, she is being ridiculed for her honesty. How sad.
I personally know the family. They are a good, hard working family. They live four houses down the block from me. Their daughter is in Kindergarten with my son. The mom was very upset at the bus stop this afternoon. I asked her what's going on...and she told me about this whole discussion on here. So I quickly came home to see what's up. And I cannot believe the posts I have read. I'm disgusted. This is a family in need that has encountered very rough times, and tragedy. I family that had to leave their home in LA because of hurricane Katrina. A family that lost a 3 yr old son who drowned in the neighbors pool. I am sickened by all of your responses. Yes, the father/husband has a good job, BUT, try paying a mortgage, extremely high property taxes, putting food on your table, buying school supplies, stuff for school projects, etc, health insurance, co payments, medications, GAS, oil, electric, car payment, car insurance...need I say more? Because of his good job, and income, the family is not eligible for any kind of assistance. Maybe he should quit his job, so he CAN GET assistance and not post for advice on here? I feel so badly after reading these posts. I personally know all the children of this family, and they are all such good kids. Well behaved kids. Intelligent children. So sad that the world has come to this. Someone is really down in the dumps, and reaching out, and this is what he gets.
Anyway, you can all read into my post also...LOL I'm just waiting to see what people come up with after reading this!
Hope you all have a wonderful holiday!

if you dont mind me asking, if the neighbors are aware of the situation, is there nothing they can do to help that they turned to strangers on a message board?
