Nah, its a good thing, take credit for it.
I kinda feel the same way.
There is a guy at 7-11 I basically support ...He is always there, always asking for a coke, a hot dog, ciggerettes, a whole load of stuff, and DH and my Mom yell at me for giving him money etc, and all I can say is if he needs it THAT bad he has to beg strangers, I honestly don't care what he uses it for, I feel for him and he can have a $1...Sounds naive but I think you get my point.
I believe in the good in people...Sure it could be a scam, but I wouldnt get all worked up over it unless someone was coming on here asking for donations of $$$ or stuff....then I might want more info...But in this situation, I think it does me more of a disservice to question motives over socks and underwear then to simply help.
Not sure that makes sense..
Total sense, I would rather send them a used item that didnt cost me anything and have them sell it (which I 110% do not believe they are doing) as opposed to not doing anything and have a little boy go cold, just in case.

Also, it should be noted, that when they FMd me to accept the offer of DS old coat bc it would fit their DS bc it was his size....when Heather later spoke to them and posted what they could use....the coat was no longer on the list of things they needed for that little boy.
I so hope their arent children going cold bc people (society in general) has become so jaded that we automatically assume the worst in people when they ask for help.
I still have their address if anyone wants to send anything. Im still going to send some used stuff I have here. If they are scammers, like I said, it didnt cost me anything and if not, and they were legit, than a little boy isnt going to be cold this winter.
he sent me an FM right after that to tell me he didn't list it because he knew you were sending him the jacket and he didn't want to double dip on requests. I somhow feel like they really needed stuff. if they were scamming why would you give me your address, REAL names that I have verfied and your phone number???
I will agree that asking for SPECIFIC items like cameo underwear and socks with polka dots in odd, but their kids may have been living a very good life up until this point (maybe a bit spoiled) and the parents are trying to shelter them as much as possible and not dissapoint them because they came on hard times? maybe they haven't taught them yet, you get what you get and you don't get upset, because the parents are still to upset about what's going on???
I just feel like we should still send USED items to them

Re: Can someone explain to me
I don't think these children have been spoiled up to this point. I don't think escaping Hurricane Katrina, and a son drowning in the neighbors pool, and the family suffering from depression, and extreme hardship is SPOILING. She was asked what she needed, she told what the kids like....btw, the socks are sold in the dollar store, and most likely the camo pattern undies are probably cheaper compared to the Hanes white at Wallmart. Big freaking deal. Nitpicking here. Not liking it a bit. She didn't ask for a Ralph Lauren coat, or Lelli Kelly shoes! I'll try and go out with my twins today and pick something out for her. SO sad. Wish I had known about her situation sooner. Very upsetting to me. I was at the bus stop this morn, and her son didn't even have a coat on. You people should be ashamed of yourselves :(

I guess you can't tell but I was DEFENDING them. You have an extremely nasty tone to all of your posts. I have done nothing wrong but try to help them, but you look at it as nit picking. If you’re the perfect person who can criticize us why aren't you out helping them instead of running your mouth here!!! You aren't defending them you are criticize all of us, MANY of who are STILL trying to help them!!! I think it’s time you step down from your soap box and use your energy to help them, while we try to do the same!

I definitely got that you were defending them. I had the same feelings about the camo underwear but then I said to myself that this is still a kid....asking for camo undies isn't the end of the world. So I don't think it was a big deal. For me, I would only donate if I had some stuff that they could use. I don't feel comfortable going out there purchasing new things. That's me. It's my money, my business. The fact that someone who claims to know them personally and has said they have helped her in the past, is saying that we should be ashamed....really gets to me.

What's puzzling to me is most everyone's posts on here. I think the posts are rude, nasty, and really mean. How sad that people are like this.
Honestly, some were, but a lot of people were defending them or questioning why LIF pulled the thread. They usually only do that if they know there is something fishy going on.
People do take advantage of others, so sometimes it is hard to keep an open mind, (and I hate that those people ruin it for those who are honest & in need) but please realize that many of us did believe him & several people were willing & able to help & are still intending to do so.
When a thread gets pulled, things often get out of hand, b/c you can't see what went down, and a lot of comments are based on hearsay.
If I had something to send I would. Best of luck to your friends.

I understand your upset, but at this point, we have addressed the negativity in this post and it just people trying to be helpful. So lets just stop the bashing and move forward and help them. It is doing nothing but creating extra hostility and defensiveness that we have been trying to diffuse. The last few pages were ALL people defending the family and trying to help. I dont think this is helping their cause.

Re: Can someone explain to me
Yes, I am still a bit skeptical but I have decided to donate in any way I can. I think we all need to get back to the spirit of the holidays and do things "in good faith" which yes, I sometimes forget myself. Thanks LIF ppl that have helped me change my mind, I needed that! I will have faith that they really do need help and aren't trying to take advantage.

Re: Can someone explain to me
exactly. Like I said, wish I knew sooner the situation, it's just so heartbreaking. I'm going to try and get some stuff together from around here for them. Since I can't get out. I've been at the Pediatrician all morning...my twins had an allergic reaction to Amoxicillin. While they nap I'm going through stuff. Thanks for being so kind Eddiesmommy.

This is my thinking, if you were a scammer, why would you bother if all you were asking for were socks and underwear, KWIM?
I have to believe there is more to it.
my thoughts exactly. and why would you give out your home address? I should google it and see if its actually a home....
Sherry did FM me with her phone number as well in case I wanted to call and verify.
Im going to send the coat anyway. Im not using it, its sitting in the closet, DS cant use it bc he is too big for it. Maybe they are scammers, but it didnt cost me anything and if they arent and he is truly a professional who just fell on hard times, I would hate for a little boy to go without a coat in the winter. Im going to send it on good faith that there is truly a cold little boy who needs a coat.
As for him having an atheist blog, that may be, but thats neither here nor there and anyones personal beliefs have no bearing on whether they need a coat to keep warm.
I would rather send it and risk being wrong than not, and a little boy goes cold.
ITA-what does that have to do with anything? Also many people may not celebrate Christmas in a religious way but still exchange presents and use it as an opportunity to connect with family, etc. We don't do anything church related....
