That's stupid to say to a woman, pregnant or not! Can you imagine if someone said that to you normally, not pregnant?

Re: Can we make a thread full of stupid things ppl say to pregnant women?
Haha my co-worker said I was getting bigger today, too. I lost 3 lbs when I first got pregnant and gained two back. Soooo I'm still down a lb. from my pre-pregnancy weight.
Sometimes I see a bump, but it depends on the time of day. I did snack a lot this morning so that's probably what she's seeing- pop tarts and a bagel.
I had another co-worker call me out for coughing one day. Yes, coughing. She said it sounded like a smoker's cough. I haven't smoked in years. She asked if my DH smokes. I said yes, not that it's your business. Then she asked if I wanted to have kids (she still doesn't know I'm pregnant, but this was before even I knew I was pregnant) and I said yes. She told me, very seriously, "Don't you want your husband to be alive to meet your future kids." It took everything in me not to tell her to go f*ck herself. I just turned and walked away.
Don't get me wrong, I wish my DH would quit, too, but f*ck you very much lady. We're not friends, how dare you!

Re: Can we make a thread full of stupid things ppl say to pregnant women?
2 things from when I was pregnant:
My mother in law told me to take cold showers only because the hot water was bad for the baby.
An older woman at work told me not to roll over in bed because the umbilical cord would get wrapped around the baby.

Re: Can we make a thread full of stupid things ppl say to pregnant women?
From my last two pregnancies
-are you having twins No Are you sure? No chance it's twin Yes
-when are you due June Are you sure Yes well you will probably go earlier (bc I was huge) Thanks for making me feel huge Silence
-were you trying? Was it an accident?
I have two girls. While I was still pregnant with the second.. Well you have to go for a third and try for a boy (Um, are you carrying them, birthing them, raising them, nursing them and paying for them a$$hole)
any comments about weight. Too much. Too little

When I was pregnant I was amazed at this question:
Is your husband excited?
"no he is actually pretty pissed, but my boyfriend is OVER THE MOON!" "

Re: Can we make a thread full of stupid things ppl say to pregnant women?
I posted this a few weeks ago, but it still annoys me so I'm adding to this list:
DH's family friend: "Wow, you are so much bigger than S and she's only a week behind you"
DH's aunt: "Yeah, but remember how skinny S was before she got pregnant"
DH's family friend: "But Lisa ran the marathon and stuff and now she's so much bigger!"
I still can't fathom that this conversation happened right in front of me. It's as if once you are pregnant, saying you are big or large is no longer offensive. SMH

I also got this:
Do you know what you're having?
Yes, a boy!
Oh. Well your husband must be happy, at least.

Re: Can we make a thread full of stupid things ppl say to pregnant women?
Oh man, I could write a book. How about:
"Was this planned?" really with that question? Would you take away your congratulations if it wasn't?
(with my first) "Oh, it's a GIRL? How does your husband feel about that?" Well, since I'm not Anne Boleyn, he was actually ecstatic.
"Did I tell you about my neice's friend who gave birth to a stillborn?" or "I had the worst labor with my first... let me tell you all about it" WHY would you tell a pregnant woman about this kind of crap? Would I tell somebody right before their flight all about the horrific things that can (but most likely won't) go wrong with their plane?

The only dumb thing I've gotten was my stepsister in law telling me how fetuses can get car sick, but that only made me feel bad for her cause she sounded like an idiot.
Otherwise, I've been very lucky as far as comments. Probably helped that I didn't tell work until I couldn't hide it anymore (like 26 weeks).

Can we make a thread full of stupid things ppl say to pregnant women?
When I was eight weeks, I told my college roommate. She then proceeded to tell me that she had a miscarriage at nine weeks. Then The first time I met her, my cousin's SIL asked me how far along I was. When I told her 18 weeks, she proceeded to tell me that she had a stillbirth at 19 weeks. Devastating for her, but really not something I want to be shared at that moment. Then described in great detail how her baby was perfectly fine and then all of a sudden just died and the horror of delivering. Why would people tell me that?!?

Re: Can we make a thread full of stupid things ppl say to pregnant women?
It's been amazing what people say:
How much weight have you gained?
Was this baby planned?
You look 7 months pregnant (I'm 5 & told her that to which she responded- you look too swollen to only be 5).

Re: Can we make a thread full of stupid things ppl say to pregnant women?
This is baby #4, so everyone has an opinion and for some reason they think I care lol.
"You guys couldn't have planned this many?!?" "I hope this is it?!??!?" "Your DH must be so happy it's a boy"
I also loved that my neighbors kid told me that her mom thinks 2 kids is a perfect amount and would never have any more. but the funny part? There's 4 kids living there Bc she has 2 kids with her ex and her new boyfriend has 2 kids as well, so wtf? Lol

My mother asked if DD was planned. What a silly question.

Dhs mom and dad keep saying how much they hope it's a boy. So rude, because if it's a girl they're already admitting they'll be disappointed.
Also dhs grandma told me that I looked 4 months pregnant when I was about 8 weeks. I replied "thanks for calling me fat" and laughed it off, But I think she got the hint that she offended me.

Re: Can we make a thread full of stupid things ppl say to pregnant women?
This reminds me of waaay back in the day on the LIF pregnancy board when I was pregnant with my first DD in 2005. People were constantly coming on the board to ask for prayers for their sister/cousin/aunt/friend who were pregnant and having complications or miscarriages. As if pregnant women have some secret prayer powers over strangers' fetuses I always thought it was wildly inappropriate to discuss tragedies of that nature on this board.

I got the "was it planned" question from my MIL
and a coworker made the "are you sure it's not twins?" comment.
