Can we share? Worst mom stories
I know we ALL have been the "worst" mom at some time or another, and all of our kids are just fine
This is my story: When DS was a few weeks old I put him down for a nap in his infant carrier while at my mom's house, and since it was winter I tucked a blanket around him.
It wasn't until I got home (I lived about 10 minutes away at the time) that I realized I had never strapped him in!! He was in the infant carrier just sleeping on top of the straps That could have been a HUGE disaster and I never, ever made that mistake again. He napped with the straps on and secured!

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
I did something similar. When DS was only a couple weeks old I was shopping and DS was in the infant carrier inside the shopping cart so I undid his straps.
It wasn't till I got home I realized I never strapped him back in when I drove home. Pray to god he was ok.
Another similar thing with the baby carrier (man I hated that thing). I dropped him on the side (he was strapped) trying to get him out of the car (he was sideways inside the car that goodness).

We did the same thing last week. I got home and realized and wanted to throw up at the possible scenarios that were running through my mind!!!! I felt awful!!

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
My son had been home a whole hour when I ran up to the car while he was sleeping in his pack and play and locked myself out of the house. My DH was on his was back from upstate and I was in an utter panic!!! I took a brick and broke my window to get in just to find him still sleeping in the same place. Needless to say my keys were in my inside coat pocket the whole time.

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
I have a similiar story as well... once I put him in the carseat and snapped the straps, but never made them tight.
On the way to daycare one morning I just lightly put his hat on his head b/c it was early and DS was still sorta sleeping when I put him in the carseat... I look back and noticed the hat was slowly falling over his eyes... then completely covered them. Poor Mason was even making a peep and his hat was slowly covering his face. I pulled over on 135 and just took the hat off.

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
I am always embarrassed to share this.. but ohhhhhh well.
During Noah's first few weeks I was SHOT. Robbie was 2 years old and full of energy - Rob was working full time plus going to school and I was just.. beyond exhausted. So one day I set Robbie up with Sesame Street in front of the TV (bad mommy moment 1) and sat behind him on the sofa and reclined back with Noah on my chest. Noah fell asleep and I guess I fell asleep too because I suddenly had a dream that a wild animal had pounced on me. I startled and BIT MY SON on his nose.. not hard - it didn't leave a mark or anything.. but hard enough to startle him and make him cry.
I still feel like the WORST mom ever when I think of that.
A more RECENT 'bad mommy' moment was at a pool party. Both my kids can swim and have had lessons. Robbie has had lessons since he was 2. No problem, right? So we are at his friend's pool party and I am chatting with another mom and I have my back to the pool. Suddenly she goes.. "OMG! Who is that? Can he swim?" I turn around and IT IS MY SON! He was walking in the pool, didn't expect the steep drop from the shallow end and panicked and was going under!!! He was fine.. but I didn't take my eyes off of him after that!

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
I was about to go out for a walk with DS.
We were outside in front of my house, DS in the stroller, when I realized that I forgot his diaper bag.
My front step is 4 steps high and I was too lazy to lift the stroller up and bring him back into the house so I ran inside for maybe a minute, but in that time he was out of my sight and when I came outside my neighbor was holding his hand talking to him.
Thank god it was my neighbor who loves him and not some random stranger who could have ran off with him.
I never did that again.

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
When Damien was two we were at a BBQ and the kids were in the pool and sprinklers so he was in his bathing suit and a swimmy diaper. He was having a ball and I kept smelling something weird but never checked him. He ended up having a poop that got all wet and was running down his leg from mixing with the water and it ended up burning his skin so he had a horrible diaper rash that went from his butt to almost down to his knees on the inside of his legs I felt like a POS after that!

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
during my sleep deprived early days as a mom - emma fell a few times. i am NOT proud of this - we'd both pass out, she'd be on me and would just slide down...and fall.
i started wrapping her on my body (with a moby wrap) and it stopped happening. i will never, EVER, EVER forgive myself.

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
My worst mommy moment was when DS was about 7 weeks old. He was still only sleeping on me and was refusing to sleep that night. I sat in the rocker with him and I started crying. Then I thought about wanting to throw him against the wall to make him stop crying. The thought lasted only a second and I immediately began crying harder because I felt so bad for thinking that. I was so sleep deprived and just wanted to sleep in my bed and have DS sleep in the crib. To this day I still feel horrible for thinking that.
Once i realized I never snapped the infant carseat into the base! I only drove a few blocks from my sister's house to my house but I couldn't believe that I just rested the carrier on the base. I am amazed that DS didn't fall as I turned corners.

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
I have one that still pains me. About 1-2 mths ago we were out to eat a quick lunch. We have one of those high chairs that attaches to tables. The table we attached it to wasnt very sturdy. FH and I kept our foot on the bottom to keep it level. FH got up to get a drink. I was still holding it down, but went to pick up DD to get her out and pack her up and in the split second I got up, the table fell over with her still in the attached high chair. I thought I was going to die. The chair actually really protected her. She didnt even really hit her head, and i put my foot on the leg of the table so it fell in slow motion and she didnt hit hard. She had no bruises or bumps at all, but I was never so scared and ashamed of myself.
FH has had a few. He sat on DD when she was just about 4 weeks old. it was for 1/2 a second, but he was on the phone, she was sleeping next to me on the couch on her boppy. he came over to get some info off of the computer and sat right on her. I screamed and he instantly got up. DD was scared and crying, but fine. She almost fell off the changing table with him once, but he caught her. She pulled a glass end table down on top of herself when she was cruising and he was watching her. She had a nasty black and blue and a scratch from that one :( He also fell down outside while carrying her. That was just about a month ago. It was one step that he missed, but it was on concrete outside. luckily, she was wearing a big puffy jacket that protected her. He was more scratched up than her, but she did get a bump on her forehead.

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
There are two instances that STILL make me feel horrible.
Last year right before Christmas, I was in the pantry. DS was under my feet playing and I didn't think anything of it. When I reached back to grab something I knocked a can off the shelf, and it hit DS's head. He had to get stitches
Then this August while Ryan was with me in the kitchen I dropped a glass. I yelled at him to stay still but he got startled and walked right on a piece of glass. He had to get stitches too. He was bleeding really bad, and it the car he was SHRIEKING. I'll never forget how horrible I felt.

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
I also forgot to strap dd in her car seat once
she fell off her changing table
KJ fell off the couch when he was only a few weeks old
and I am STILL a great mommy
ETA - I almost forgot the WORST mommy moment...we bought miki a slide and dh was cleaning it with some greased lightening....I walked out of the room for a minute, DH put the bottle of chemicals down and, YUP, you guessed it, when I came back out, miki had the bottle in her mouth we had no idea if she ingested any so we rushed her to the ER (that suff is VERY caustic)
turns out she was okay

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
When DD was a few weeks old she wouldn't sleep ANYWHERE but snuggled next to me on the couch. Needless to say- she eventually fell off and hit the floor. She was screaming and I freaked out and felt sick to my stomach. I was so filled with guilt I had to tell someone that wouldn't be judgemental- so I told my sister.
Another time me and my sister were walking a 5k for a charity event. I had DD in the stroller and when we were dne I loaded her in the car and drove home. It was about a 15 minute drive on the parkway and other congested areas. I realized when I got home that I never restrapped her in. Again- I could only confess to my sister. I felt like such a loser.

I left the gate open once when DS was like 1.5 and he fell down the entire flight of stairs.....got a bloody nose. It warranted a trip to the ER and everything. Not my proudest moment.

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
Jeez, I have a zillion. Here are some the worst.
We live on a hill- I thought I had put the brake on DS stroller really well and ran in to get his bottle. I look out to see the stroller had gone down the driveway and crossed THE STREET with my son in it! Luckily, he was strapped in tight, it remained upright and we live a a semi-quiet road. My neighbor saw the stroller and almost fainted when she saw there was an actual baby in it!
My DD fell down a flight of hardwood stairs, hitting her head several times on the way down. I was in the bathroom and asked my SIL to watch her for a second. Still felt like my fault Luckily, she was fine.
I have forgotten to strap my DD fully in her carseat, forgotten to strap DS in his swing and he fell out, had both kids fall off the couch numerous times, and watched my DD fall out the side door into the driveway.
ETA: I forgot the time Grace fell down the ladder at the play park 6 feet to the hard surface below. Again, she got a really bad bruise on the face but was fine.
I told you it was bad.

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
Oh and another time, DS was like 5 weeks old and we had put the base back into my car but never put the silver clip thing on the car seatbelt to keep it from pulling out. Well needless to say, I pulled into starbucks and turnaround and his carseat was laying on its side, attached to the base WITH HIM IN IT. I only leave down the street from starbucks so I dont think it was like that for very long, but I really dont know!
Oh and again that same week, I went to put DS into his rainforest bouncer and apparently the toy bar wasnt clicked in and when I slid him in the toy bar fell and bashed him in the face, he was OK! I was not, LOL.

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
Two that stand out...
Once, DD was about 2 1/2 months old...I was taking her to day care, only for about the 2nd time, and I pulled out of our complex at the time, about 1/2 mile later I look in the mirror and DD is nice and tightly strapped into her seat..........except the whole seat is tipped over on it's SIDE!!!!! Apparently the base wasn't secured properly....
The second one, DD was about 7 1/2 months old...it was two days before her Christening...my parents had picked up DD's Godmother and my niece at the airport and were on their way to my house. I had just bathed DD and had her on the changer...I was going to try on her after-church dress, and turned around for a nanosecond to the laundry basket behind me for a onesie...The "THUD" that ensued was the worst sound I'd ever heard as my DD fell off the changer...Thankfully we had plush carpeting and she was okay...I was NOT okay for a while though...never left her alone on changer again!

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
See we all make mistakes!
Noah fell off the bed onto the hard wood floors once at 4 months old...Worst moment ever.
One time I was on the computer and he was sitting on the back of the chair in the living room, leaned against the window screen and it popped out ..he was hanging on the window ( raised 1st story) and the back of the chair....OUT the window.
Just yesterday I stabbed Sydney in the face with the corner of my diamond ring and left a mark when changing her too quickly
And I left Noah in an unbucked car seat once for a blocks drive...

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
We have a sectional with a chase, and I used to leave DS on the chase section propped up with the boppy and his toys, while I went to get his bottle or things from the kitchen...this was before he was really mobile.
So one morning, I come out of the kitchen, and he's not in the boppy anymore...my heart sunk to my knees.
He had somehow wriggled himself off the chase and sat on the floor...I screamed ETHAN!!! and he looked up at me and smiled I'm guessing he slid off the couch and landed on his butt, but it scared the crap out of me.
