Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
I have 3 in the 5 short months i have been a mommy..so i must be the WORST! First, I definitely did the not strapping in the infant seat thing and I hated myself for DAYS over that.
Second, when DD was about a month old, she was sitting in her bouncy seat on the kitchen floor while i poured myself a drink of iced tea. I spilled the iced tea on the counter and as I went to catch the pitcher from falling to the floor, I knocked over some cookbooks and one hit DD on the side of the head and the shoulder. She screamed for about 3 seconds and then was fine but I was a wreck the rest of the day. I called the ped who basically just told me that I should just watch her for lethargy etc. thank goodness she was fine and the book didnt even leave any marks.
Last was when we were in Ireland and DD was 3.5 months. We were going to visit DH's aunt who lives in the middle of nowhere. Literally like an hour drive from any sort of town. When we got there, I realized I forgot to pack her a bottle! I absolutely panicked and we could only stay to visit for a few minutes. I'll never forget her bottles again!

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
One time I was at the library leaving from a class and I was putting DS in the car while DD was still in the stroller. All of a sudden this couple who were taking the class with me are wheeling the stroller back to me with DD in it. It started to wheel across the parking lot while I was busy with DS. Now I always make sure to put on the brakes when i am putting them in the car.

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
DD was a few weeks old and had a mild case of cradle cap. I called a friend who is a mom of 4 and dealt with cradle cap. She told me to use Head & Shoulders. So that's what I did and I got her in the eye with it. OMG did she scream and cry. I felt horrible. I rinsed her eye out and it was just so red. I cried so much. DH was out when it happened, but when he came home, he had to take care of her because I felt so bad and guilty.

DD crawled across the floor to where our highchair stood folded against the wall. She tried to pull up on the tray and the entire chair fell over and landed on top of her She was fine in 5 minutes. I was shaking so badly I could barely hold her.

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
yikes, do I win the worst mommy award if i have more than 1 story?
- Katie was a coulpe of weeks old and I was watching my niece. I had to climb over an old school baby gate while holding katie and while climbimg over it, my arm swung out and her head hit right into the bookcase! I was up all night afraid I gave her a concussion.
- just the other day katie was walking out of my room and i was walking behind her, closing the door behind us. I didnt realize she was holding onto the opening by the hinges and I tried closing the door with her fingers there . I felt so horrible. She was fine after a minute but her fingers were all swollen and red. I still feel guilt about that

John was not even 2 yet, I didnt latch the top of stair gate well, he pushed through and fell down a flight of stairs slamming his head into the banister post, the pic below was when it was healing, it looked like he had a orange under his skin and it was horrendus. Rushed him to the ER, he was fine

I did the car seat straps...
I locked DD in the car while it was running in the garage once. I had to call 911 and the cops came to get her out. I felt really awful!

my kid was in his diaper in his exersaucer while i was watching tv. DH comes in the house and asks me what the baby was eating as he had brown stuff all over his fingers and was licking it. Yup...you guessed it...he stuffed his hands in his diaper and he was eating his own poop as i sat there watching tv. Can't wait to tell that one to his future wife!!!

I held Abby's nose to get her to open her mouth and I caught sh*t here for doing it. One time and I was waiting for ACS to knock on my door. I think it is more detrimental for Suri Cruise to ruin her instep with those ridiculous shoes but THAT's ok.

James & you will...I've heard DH's poop smearing on the walls stories more times than I can count from MIL when DH was 10 months old & in his crib.
I've done the not strapping her in bid (not realizing till I was back in the house...OMG)
DD fell from the bed onto the hardwood floor at 7 months
Last year we were going to see Santa at the mall so I had DD dressed up & ready to go. She came out the door w/ me & was on my stoop (she could walk but couldn't navigate steps yet). I told her to stay there (Yea, a 16 month old may listen...) while I literally turned my back to throw garbage in the pail by the garage. I turn to see her falling in what seemed like slow motion. I was petrified to pick her up thinking she lost all her teeth (she fell right on her face). I pick her up & she's hysterical crying. Thankfully she was just banged/bruised, no "real" injuries...suffice to say, she didn't meet Santa that day.

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
DD was about 7 weeks old I was walking fast from her nursery to the living room, and i bumped her head into the door molding, i didnt reallize i was holding her head so close to the door as i was passing by. she had a red spot on her head for 30 minutes but then she was fine. ofcourse i called my pediatrician, he said it was fine, i still felt awful, then that same night i was giving her a bath and her head slipped again and hit the side of her head. i know its plastic, but i felt like such a bad mom.

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
My worst came recently and it shook me up so bad that I blacked out all the past ones although I know there have been many....
Recently I was shopping in BRU for a shower gift. Well DS no longer likes sitting in the shopping cart in the "seat" part, he likes sitting in the back. So he was sitting htere having cookies, as I was trying to locate the exact PNP on the list, I pulled the cart back and just heard this horribly "PING' noise followed by crying. DS had stood up so when I moved the cart (without looking) he went flying and fell flat on his head (I assume as I didnt see the fall first hand But that PING was his head. His mouth was bleeding, but after a minute or two my tough cookie stopped crying because he wanted to climb on the power wheels.
I was all shaken up so I left the store, and was passing the Ped office so I stopped. I am totally not an over reactor when it comes to this stuff, and I will say this NOT the first big fall DS has taken, nor the first where his head took the brunt of it. BUt I think because I didnt see the fall first hand I was more worried.
DS was fine, but when the nurse said to DS, oh I heard you fell...I jsut looked at her and said Erin, its one of those really bad Mommy Days.
As I told MIL. When your 2yo falls on the playground, it goes with the territory, you know its going to happen at some point, but when they fall out of the shopping cart, you know its your fault!
Good News, DS now no longer sits in the cart at all, he likes to help mommy push it!

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
One that stands out is when she was about 5 weeks old and I put her down next to me on the couch and she just rolled off of it. It was like watching it in slow motion- I was so thankful she was OK.
Now, of course, there is the handling tantrums part- which I'm still trying to figure out... I serously hope i don't permanentlly mess her up...

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
It's funny the floodgates of confessions that come about when I share my moment...
It was about a month ago... on occassion, we'd put DS in his swing without the buckle , when he was young and immobile, just to go to the bathroom or load up the car but one day, I pushed it too far. It just started to get nippy out so before I put him in his carseat to go out (he does not like to be strapped in and then left there while you get ready), I wanted to run up and get a fleece blanket instead of his thin summer one so I put him in the swing, unbuckled. Ran up for seconds and on my way down, I hear him crying but muffled. I'm thinking what the heck is muffling him, he's in the swing alone with no blanket or toy... I run down the last turn of stairs, almost falling myself and there he is, laying face down on the rug, under the swing! He had just started to do these little stomach crunch moves, the beginning stages of sitting, but never got anywhere. Never in my wildest dreams did I think he'd lean so far as to get the swing to tip him out!
He was fine and when I layed him upright on the floor to check him for contusions, he was smiling at me! I then put him in the swing to reenact it to see how it happened and if there was some way that he could have hit his head on the swing frame. The way it swang to allow him to tip out, made him about 8-10 inches from the floor and away from the wood swing frame so I do not think he hit anything. He had no marks at all.
In hindsight, I told DH that I did it on my watch for him so he did not have to be the first to do something like that! So forever, I'm the bad mommy who let Nolan fall first!!!

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
OK...one time DD was like 4 months old and loved her bouncer. I had the bouncer on my bed and she was sleeping so I ran to the kitchen to get something and not even 2 minutes later when I go to the room DD had woken up and flipped the bouncer and was on the edge of my bed in the bouncer Thank God I strapped her in...if I got there a few seconds later she would have fallen off the bed in the bouncer.
She's also fallen off the bed twice...once with DH sleeping next to her and once with me sleeping next to her

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
just yesterday ds was playing with his "ramp" which is a nice wood board... i went to get a drink and he had lifted the board up dropped it on his head, which he then tried to get out from under it and scratch his whole face
a few months ago i was changing his diaper on the ottoman, i thought my mother was watching him since she was sitting right there next to him, so i got up to grab the wipes and he rolled off....

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
I have a couple:
When DD was only a few weeks old I was sleeping and DH was doing her night feeding. All of a sudden I hear DD screaming and I wake up to DH crouching on the floor. He had laid her on the edge of the bed and he leaned down to get her bottle and she rolled right off the bed.
When she was just a few months old I was changing her diaper. I picked her up and turned to walk away and my foot got caught on the edge of my pants and I fell. I let go of DD on the way down and she banged her head on the floor. She screamed for a min or so and then was fine. DH called the ped (cause I was hysterical) and he said to just watch her and not put her to bed for a bit (it was 9pm at night).
When DD was a little over a year. DH and I ate dinner in the living room on tray tables. Well I went into the kitchen to wash the dishes and DH went in our bedroom. Both thinking the other was watching DD. Well next thing your know we hear a crash, then a quick cry, then nothing. We ran to the living to find DD had pulled the tray table over on top of herself and was laying flat on her back with the tray across her stomach just staring wide eyed at the ceiling. As soon as we picked the table up she started crying hysterically and then was fine 2 mins later.
Also she squirms so much on the changing table that she has bumped her head on her wall more times than I care to count because she throws herself backwards when we're trying to dress her.

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
2 that stand out....
1 time I went to breakfast with my girlfriend and DS was still in the infant seat. I unstrapped him and tucked him under a blanket in the seat. When we were done I put him in the car and drove all the way home without strapping him in (sounds like lots of mommies do that). It make me crazy about checking him everytime I put him back in the car.
another time I was getting ready to take DS to daycare when he was about 4 months old. I got out to the truck and realized that the base of the seat wasn't strapped in. I set DS down on the ground and begin to tighten the base. DH comes running out of the house yelling at me because I put DS down in front of the exhaust pipe while the truck was on. Good thing he saw it and it was only for about 4-5 seconds. I felt awful that whole day and kept calling daycare to check on him.

Re: Can we share? Worst mom stories
I have 2 and my DS is only 8 months old
#1: When DS was 6 months old, I was at Joyce Leslie shopping with a friend. DS was in the big stroller....and he began to get fussy. I took him out and was holding him. When my girlfriend gave me a shirt to hold up to my body, I placed DS in the stroller (unstrapped). Next thing I know, he slid down the front of the stroller and onto the carpet. It didn't phase him one bit....but it took about 2 days to get the feeling back in my nerves. (As a write this, I laugh now...but I was a wreck when it happened).
#2: Every morning, before I bring my DH to work we stop at the 711 across the street from his job. I usually sit in the back with DS until we get to 711 and then I switch the driver seat. Well, we both got out of the vehicle at the same time and shut the doors, and when I made it around to the driver door - it was locked I immediately paniced!! Thank goodness DH works in a body shop...he got the tools to unlock the door. In the meantime, DS is sitting all content sucking on his binkie! (Another story to laugh about now).
