Re: Can you girls tell me seriously
I have to be honest and say I haven't heard of 2 of those brands mentioned. I love nice stuff but these days, I'd rather put the money into my home than an expensive bag.

I guess I probably shouldn't even be chiming in here since I don't really own designer anything but I'll speculate. I think there is a 2 part answer to this question:
1. I think that the "how" comes down to priorities. People prioritize different things in their lives. If you prioritize buying a house, for example, all your money will go there and you'll do everything you can to buy your house. If you prioritize owning designer items, you will put your money towards that.
2. They just make the money for it. Plain and simple. Because if you already have the house, and the kids, and the car (if that's what you want), and still have the money to drop $1k on a purse or shoes, then obviously, you have the money.
Excellent point!! I don't buy designer bags unless it's given to me as a gift. My priority right now is to save for a house and a (hopefully soon) bambino(a).

Re: Can you girls tell me seriously
If I really want something nice, DH will buy it for me as a gift or I'll save the money to buy it for myself. Now that we have a house our priorities have changed and I don't feel the need for a bunch expensive things that I know I'll be sick of eventually. I try to buy classics that I'll love and have for a while. It's hard to stay practical but I'd rather have a beautiful house and savings for my future children.

I hook on the weekends.
For me, I don't do it every day, week or month. But a few times a year I might. I am a big fan of getting classic/non-trendy pieces and have found that I use them and they last longer than others. So I try to limit my shopping and have a few big sprees rather than lots of little ones.

Re: Can you girls tell me seriously
I have a few designer bags from back when I was single and didn't have children.
One Kate Spade I bought for myself at their big sale. It is a black leather bag that is classic and goes with everything. I always use on days when I need to look well dressed and presentable. Even with a 30% off it was still a looot of money and now I would never spend so much on a bag. I just have completely different priorities.
Another bag by Fendi was a gift from my birthday from a well-to-do ex. I would never buy anything like that for myself, not than, not now... That one small bag was $1000... I absolutely love it and use it all the time when we go out but let's face it--those are pieces of fabric and leather stitched together that just happen to have a Fendi logo on it...
I have been thinking of treating myself to a nice bag for a special occasion, like birthday or promotion, but frankly, I just can't bring myself to spending money on something that is so frivolous when we have almost two kids and still don't own a house.
May be one day when we have money to burn...

Most of my Coach bags came from the outlets..also bought one at Marshalls...My expensive one I bought when I got my job this year....I am making 4x what I made last year (which is not saying much believe me) so I treated myself...I do not buy designer shoes...Nine West suits me just fine!

Re: Can you girls tell me seriously
My DH bought me a very expensive bag. I didn't ask for it b/c I can't fathom spending $$$$$$$$$$$ on a bag.
BUT - it was a great surprise so I'm not returning it!

Re: Can you girls tell me seriously
I only get a brand name bag such as Coach or Longchamp on special occassions...they have always been a gift to me. If I buy myself a bag, it's more like a $70 Kenneth Cole at Macy's.

Re: Can you girls tell me seriously
I used to get them as gifts from my bosses... From my old job alone, I have 2 Prada and 1 Coach and 1 really unique Kate Spade that I love. (the one thing I miss about that place!)!
That being said, I am also somewhat of a purse wh0re and have bought myself a few (on sale in Bloomies) and have gotten one large Coach bag & matching wallet from DH as a gift before we got married.
I also mix in a few fakies here and there no one knows when you mix them in with your real ones!!!!!!!
