How would they contact you again, leave a note on the car again??? Unless its someone who knows where you work/live..

wow thats weird! I hope its not the people next door. Glad you got a police report though, at least you have proof there wasn't really any damage. Besides, if you did hit someone, they would have had to see you do it to prove it, so why didn't they try to follow you or chase you down, or call the police?
I really don't think there is anyway they can prove it, unless its a white car, but then how would they contact you, they would have to know you personally
