Casey Anthony...does anyone have an argument as to WHY she should not get the death penalty?
I just can't wrap my head around how this POS murdered this child and her parents support and defend her. If it was my child that went missing/was presumed dead, you'd better believe my parents would be 1st in line to charge up old sparky!
Is there anyone who feels she should not get the death penalty? It's too bad she's in solitary confinement. I was soo hoping "internal justice" would be served within the prison system

They were saying this morning on the news that the FL prosecutor MAY change this.
I hope they do, She deserves the death penalty! She is a POS! I would rather the DP then have her get 3 meals a day and have a warm place to sleep. She should have thought about that PRIOR to killing her innocent child.

DH is against the death penalty something along the lines ofthe government ending the life of its own citizens - outside of wars.

she should suffer like she made her little girl suffer. what did a 3 yr old do for her to murder her. i hope the immates are cruel to her. there's people in this world that can't have children and she goes to murder her own. if she didn't want her, then she should've give the girl to a family who would love and care for her

I'm against the death penalty in most cases. This case is hard. I understand why people feel like she should die but I also wonder if it will be more of a punishment to put this woman in prison for the rest of her life . Everyday she will have to think about what she has done and most likely in a solitary situation. I can't imagine she would be placed with the general population because of the risk.

I thought the same thing about her having to live every single day with the knowledge and the consequenses of what she did... but on the other hand, someone who is sick enough to do what she did and continue to live their life like nothing happened doesn't have the same thought process or feelings of guilt that we might have... KWIM?
This is a toughie...

How is that more of a punishment? She still gets to eat three meals a day, exercise, watch tv, talk on the phone... LIVE!! IMO, she shouldn't have the right to live.

Exactly. She didnt care enough NOT to do, it really wont matter to sit in jail. And WHY should we the taxpayers have to foot the bill for this POS! There are homeless people who wont eat as well as her.

Re: Casey Anthony...does anyone have an argument as to WHY she should not get the death penalty?
there is a separate standard APART from murder...mitigating circumstances...in order for the death penalty to be considered and applied.
the gov has to PROVE these circumstances...since they only JUST found her body (is it confirmed hers) it's unlikely they would even know what these circumstances are.
Prison is not fun. being in prison with other MOTHER's after you KILLED your child is even less so.
do we know anything about this women's psychological state at the time of the murder? do we know HOW the child was killed?
until these things are brought to light, I think it would be both unfair and premature for the GOVT (impartial, unemotional, and balanced) to say whether they would seek the DP or not.
as for we, the people...we are not held to such standards and can cry bloody blue murder....but we need to understand how the LAW works too.

Everyday she will have to think about what she has done.
She's been living with this since the day her child "disappeared". And what has she done since. Gone on a shopping spree with stolen checks from a friend. Text friends with what a spoiled brat Caylee was. Talked about wanting to go on vacation with friends. Gone out partying. And lets not forget, NOT reporting her missing for what 2 months.
She has no remorse. Solitary confinement or not.
IMO she shouldn't live to take another breath. She should be duct taped and thrown in the woods like that precious little girl.

I agree--I think sometimes the argument that the person will "suffer more daily with that they did" is more of an assumption that the person who committed the crime...feels remorse or regret. if you are sick enough to do this--whose to say that they definitely will "suffer" daily with what they did.
Like Scott Peterson--sure he's rotting in jail, but really....do we think he's living with what he did daily and suffering? His crime seemed very cold and calculating and while I know prison isn't a 5 star hotel, in the end, he's still getting a better deal than his wife and unborn child ever got.
IMO this woman is a poor excuse for a human being...she partied and danced on bars while her baby's corpse was decomposing less than a 5 min. walk away from her home....what kind of a monster does that?!?!?

ETA: as I said the other day, I don't count guilt and remorse as punishment...and I am not necessarily against the death penalty...but we need to see what could be construed as the contradictory aspects of it.

Right!! Think of me what you will, but it's cases like this where I wish cruel and unusual punishment was legal and acceptable.
I say it's a tough choice because if she lived, she wouldn't suffer from any sort of guilt, she'd just be PO'd because she got caught... plus she gets protection, meals, and a bed. If she gets the death penalty, it's almost like an easy way out for her, quick and almost painless exit to hell.

ITA with what you both stated... I want her to live so she has to deal with the consequences for the rest of her life BUT then again that is us saying how she would feel from a logical perspective. Lately, it hasnt looked as though she is that devestated. She needs some real help. Unfortunately, I am not sure she is going to get it. Also, I dont blame her parents for trying to believe in their dd. Everyone that has children would like to believe their child would NEVER do this. I am sure they are just one of those parents that are keeping that hope alive. I think their world would shatter even more once they find out the truth. What a position to be put in as innocent parents.

I wanted her to die, but now I want her to live in solitary confinement with a photo of Caylee permanently affixed to the wall in front of her.
And no chance of parole, obviously.
The only part that bugs me about that is that we the taxpayers get to pay to keep her alive.

Well, this is certainly one of the many problems in this country. We put people in prison for ridiculous offenses like having drugs on them but then release people from metal institutions who need to be there and letting them die on the streets. It's a false economy. This woman is the type of person who should be in prison. I also find it slightly disturbing that we are one of very few westernized countries that still have the death penalty.

I'm against the death penalty in all cases, so count me among those who feel she should not receive the death penalty if found guilty.
This does not make me any less outraged or disgusted about the crimes that were committed, nor does it in any way mean I feel she shouldn't be punished severely if she is guilty. What happened to this poor girl is heinous. My beliefs against the death penalty in no way mean I am complacent about crime and feel criminals shouldn't be punished.

it is a well known fact that placing someone on death row is MORE expensive than a sentence of life imprisonment...so that argument is out.

My sentiments exactly. I will add that it is cases like this that test my resolve, but in the end, I'm still against capital punishment.

And it takes years. Almost all prisoners appeal and that process can take many years.
